Family Vacation day 5 (9/3/26, part 2): After the Wild Walk a bunch of us met up to do High Falls Gorge before it closed. I chose to do the easy trail, and everything was absolutely gorgeous. Mr. Squirrel remains unimpressed with all of the nature I showed him (he's probably just hungry, you're not allowed to feed the wildlife at the Wild Center).

The last photo is the view from the local grocery store, because EVERYWHERE in Lake Placid is simply the most gorgeous view. by @realheatherlynn

Family Vacation Day 5 (9/3/26, part 1): We went to the Wild Center and did the Wild Walk, although I didn't complete the full walk. Mr. Squirrel and I got to explore nature and see giant trolls! The visitor center is built straight into the lake, so my aunt and I had a beautiful view when we took a break from walking. The round item that's shown in 2 pictures is a life size eagle's nest, which was HUGE. Mr. Squirrel also got to learn about otters and see one up close. Final picture is the view from a McDonald's parking lot I stopped at on my way back to the Lake Placid area. by @realheatherlynn

Family Vacation Day 3: rest (no pictures posted).

Family Vacation Day 4 (9/2/26), Ticonderoga, NY: After getting lost for 25 minutes with zero signal, I found signal and finished my drive to the Star Trek Original Series Tour Museum, which is a guided tour through a faithful recreation - using real props! - of the Original Series ship sets! Featured is the 3D chess set, me sitting in William Shatner's Captain's chair, me standing on the transponder, and a model of the ship in the gift shop. After that I quickly did part of the River Walk and saw an old, partial historic dam (waterfall). I then went to Fort Ticonderoga to meet up with everyone, see them fire cannons, and went to King's Garden. After that, we went to the top of Mount Defiance and later got takeout and played games back at the Airbnb! by @realheatherlynn

8/31/26: Family Vacation 2026 Day 2! We started at the Olympic Center & Museum, then went to the Olympic Ski Jump Park, and finished it off by driving up Whiteface Mountain! I also made a new friend, and he plans on being wholly unimpressed with all the adventures I take him on this week (aka I bought a squirrel stuffed animal at the Olympic Museum gift store). by @realheatherlynn

1 year 💔

This was the first selfie we ever took together. What a wild, amazing 3.5 years it was.

I hate how short it was. I hate that I lost you in pieces. I hate that I can't hug you. I hate that you don't call me at 10pm anymore.

I hate that you didn't get to share in my wins this year, and man, did I have a big one: I made a million new friends. I hate that they never got to meet you.

I hate everything about this.

I miss you so much, which you know because I tell you every day. I keep you alive in my memories and in the stories I tell. I keep you alive in my sense of self, because I wouldn't be who I am without you.

There's no words for this. I love and miss you. I told my cat last night I love her "all the much", which you used to say to me all the time.

I hope you're proud of me. by @realheatherlynn

Turning 42 was certainly different, but both last weekend and this weekend were magical and absolutely chock full of love, great conversations, and laughter. To everyone who helped me celebrate, thank you from the bottom of my grateful and very full heart ❤️❤️❤️ by @realheatherlynn

2025. What a fucking year.

I called 2019 my worst year ever. Then 2020. But 2025... this year will be my worst year ever. It was the hardest, in a sea of hard years. But I also celebrated some really huge wins, and I got to love and be loved by one of the greatest people I ever knew before he died. So, here are some highlights of 2025:

January: went to Cabaret and no one can find the group photo. I cried when Bebe Neuwirth came on stage, I didn't know she was going to be in it and I never thought I'd get to see her live and it was one of the greatest moments of my life.

February: went to the Edgar Allen Poe speakeasy thing and turned 41.

March: Went to Chicago for the first time and of course, after the nap at the hotel the first thing we did was see the bean.

April: saw Kristen Key live. Being surrounded by that many queer women healed my soul. Also went to 20 Sided Tavern right before it closed.

May: Finally got to go to Grounds for Sculpture. I loved it as much as I knew I would. Also attended 2 bridal showers!

June: I didn't take many pictures. I mostly spent it hanging out reading while Rob slept. Hence the picture of my cats.

July: Rob and I while he was in hospice. Most of you have seen that photo.

August: I tried to connect with a friend I've always admired who lost her mom a month before I lost Rob. We went to a concert that made 16 year old me happy (Rilo Kiley).

September: This one was super hard for me and also one of my favorite parts of the 2nd half of the year. It was my Bookclub's first Sidequest - Sparta Renaissance Faire. It was the first of many outings!

October: I did a lot in October, but featured here is Lora and I at a sip and craft where we learned to hand crochet a blanket (no needles).

November: Daniella and I at Lunar Faire (another Sidequest!). That was a pretty great night, and now I have another karaoke friend!

December: our last Sidequest before tonight's NYE party - the German Christmas Market at Sussex Fairgrounds.

This year I lived for myself, even when it was hard to. I reconnected with old friends. I made a ton of new friends. And it was hard. Here's to moving forward. by @realheatherlynn

October was... hard. I entered October in a pretty terrible headspace, grief wise. And then October ended up being really great for the following reasons (in no particular order):

1. I made new friends and strengthened friendships with others.
2. I went to adult sleepaway camp on my own and thrived. Yay to occasionally conquering social anxiety!
3. I went away 3 times in 6 weeks.
4. I learned how to hand knit (no needles) a blanket.
5. I felt happy for the first time in 4 months.
6. I went to a wedding on Roosevelt Island and it was gorgeous.
7. I handled 3 months without Rob with tears, but also Disney Karaoke with my mom. Yeah, 10/24/25 was a weird day.
8. I celebrated my Grandmother's 96th birthday.
9. I made meaningful steps in learning how to move forward, while also learning that breaking down and actually feeling my grief is OK. Sometimes things feel really good and really awful at the same time and that's just life.

I will forever love Rob. But the world didn't end. So here's to moving forward amid all the tears, fear, and grief. I really didn't think life could get better only 2-3 months after, but somehow, it's starting too. Thanks, October 2025. For the big moments, but mostly for the small ones.

And to those of you who helped me this month, I really hope you know who you are. I love you all. by @realheatherlynn

I will never find the words, but it's been 1 month without you and I will forever love and miss you.

Last slide is a poem written 2 days before Rob died.

Today, 5/31/25, I hit 100,000 miles on my car. I bought this car at the end of September 2018 with, I think, 8 miles on it, and only replaced the rear brakes for the first time earlier this year at 92,000 (second time replacing the front brakes).

I don't know why this feels like such a milestone, but it does. by @realheatherlynn

Before, during, and after my hair transformation. Before we did anything else, my amazing stylist cut 4" off my hair. Then we added low lights, highlights, and my base red color. After, we did the berry pink, she cut another 2" off, and re-layered my hair. A much needed transformation!!! taken in Salon id by @realheatherlynn
