I started work on DO NOT ATTEMPT with a madcap bunch of producers and filmmakers at Imagine Documentaries three years ago. Eight countries, six episodes, a bunch of friendships and some crazy hours with some exceptional magicians and adventurers later, the series is finally here. I couldn’t be more proud of this crazy and ambitious project. And so happy that it will finally premiere on the 23rd of March on Disney+, Hulu and NatGeo. Please tune in! I’m incredibly excited and honored to have my film ‘Hanging by a Wire’ premiere at the 2026 #sundancefilmfestival made with partner in crime and wearer of bright coats - the inimitable @mo_naqvi.

SouthStack funds and promotes South Asian film makers, and has produced and distributed several films and workshops through Oscars, Sundance, Cannes and Tribeca.

Hanging by a Wire, has been selected as Pakistan’s official submission for the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category!

After its Sundance opening-day premiere and acclaimed festival journey through Tribeca, Sydney and Seattle, the film is now coming to the San Francisco Bay Area.

A resident of Brooklyn and of Pakistani heritage, Bilal visited LA last week for the premier of his finely crafted documentary film “Hanging by a Wire” which has played at Sundance, Tribeca and is set to stream on Paramount+ pretty soon.

The documentary is directed by @mo_naqvi who has been previously featured in our magazine.

Bilal is a gentle soul who isn’t shy about being comfortable in-front of the camera, as he is behind one: taken in Laemmle Royal by @reallyreallybilalsami

Hanging by a Wire is a must watch film!

Hanging by a Wire is the kind of documentary that reminds you that sometimes the most extraordinary stories are the ones that actually happened.

Directed by Mohammed Ali Naqvi, the film tells the true story of eight people, including six schoolboys, left suspended around 900 feet above a ravine in northern Pakistan after a cable car’s supporting cables snapped.

But beneath the tension of the rescue is a deeply human story about community, home, belonging and the people who came together when everything went wrong.

What moved me most is the reminder that this cable car wasn’t some extraordinary journey, it was part of everyday life for people in this remote mountain community, including children travelling to school.

Hanging by a Wire premiered at Sundance in January and was released in UK cinemas on 28 August 2026. If you get the chance to see it, I genuinely think you should. It’s a gripping survival story, but more importantly, it gives a human face to an event that captivated the world. by @reallyreallybilalsami

Thrilled to finally share that @paramountplus has acquired the streaming rights to @hangingbyawirefilm

The film will make its streaming premiere on October 28.

It has been an extraordinary journey—from our world premiere at Sundance to the film’s current theatrical rollout across North America and the UK—and I couldn’t be happier that it has found its streaming home.

Before then, see it on the big screen. We open in Los Angeles tonight at the Laemmle Royal, followed by a weeklong run at the Laemmle Glendale from September 4–10.
