Shouting out the Hanging by a Wire Impact Campaign!

One Good Act has platformed the recently released movie Hanging by a Wire, directed by Mohammed Ali Naqvi and produced by Bilal Sami. Today, we wanted to advertise the resulting Impact Campaign.

The students and workers who were trapped in the cable car lived in an area where many lack easy and affordable access to basic services like higher education and a doctor. The Hanging by a Wire Impact Campaign aims to leverage the attention the film drew to bring awareness to these conditions and improve the livelihoods of the individuals in the film. The campaign has two concrete, costed, locally-agreed outcomes: put the students through a recognised technical education, and bring the abandoned Basic Health Unit at Battangai back to life.

The Pakistani documentary Hanging By A Wire written, produced and directed by Mo Naqvi and written and produced by Bilal Sami was a sensation at Sundance 2026.

When two cables snap midair, a routine ride turns into a life-or-death battle for survival, this gripping documentary captures the harrowing rescue of teenagers and adults trapped 900 feet above the ground.

A resident of Brooklyn and of Pakistani heritage, Bilal visited LA last week for the premier of his finely crafted documentary film “Hanging by a Wire” which has played at Sundance, Tribeca and is set to stream on Paramount+ pretty soon.

The documentary is directed by @mo_naqvi who has been previously featured in our magazine.

Bilal is a gentle soul who isn’t shy about being comfortable in-front of the camera, as he is behind one:

Hanging by a Wire is a must watch film!

#whattowatch #hangingbyawire #documentaryfilm #truestory #filmrecommendation

Hanging by a Wire is the kind of documentary that reminds you that sometimes the most extraordinary stories are the ones that actually happened.

Directed by Mohammed Ali Naqvi, the film tells the true story of eight people, including six schoolboys, left suspended around 900 feet above a ravine in northern Pakistan after a cable car’s supporting cables snapped.

But beneath the tension of the rescue is a deeply human story about community, home, belonging and the people who came together when everything went wrong.

What moved me most is the reminder that this cable car wasn’t some extraordinary journey, it was part of everyday life for people in this remote mountain community, including children travelling to school.

Hanging by a Wire premiered at Sundance in January and was released in UK cinemas on 28 August 2026. If you get the chance to see it, I genuinely think you should. It’s a gripping survival story, but more importantly, it gives a human face to an event that captivated the world.
