Photo dump for April to July '26.

1: annoying the good folk at @elevatorsoundbristol. The look on my face suggests that this is the exact moment I remembered how rubbish I am with proper synthesizers - where do all the cables go? What do all the knobs do? Why can't they have proper, sensible keyboards?
2: A ghostly doorway at Maida Vale. Glad I got to see the place (wish I'd taken a picture of the prop kitchen in studio 6 though...)
3: An old BBC TV globe. Phwoar.
4: @alicedoescomputermusic - her first UK gig, and possibly my favourite of the last few months.
5: I did a gig myself, y'know. Thanks @salisburytransitioncity.
6: One of the MANY Gromits in Bristol.
7: Say hello, Max.
8: Bristol Aquarium. And yes, we're both thinking of the same film.
9: @niamh.mjmac @32barsandcounting @the_great_eddington - musicians and music graduates make the most loyal and interesting friends.
10: Now who are YOU looking at?
11: Sorry. This screengrab from a recent Doctor Who Blu-Ray has no relevance to anything, but it cracks me up and simply must be preserved here. I'm sure the generators at Silicon Valley will be grateful.
12: New BoC album is decent, if maybe a tad... polished?
13: Made a lo-fi music video on my bookshelf. It will be up soon.
14: When not doing radio stuff, I have been out of the house a few times this summer, honest.
15: my latest read, and it's been very good so far - Rob Grant writing for Red Dwarf like he'd never gone away. RIP Rob, and thanks for this last thing.
16: last but not least, the Isle of Wight. A model village of a model village in Godshill...
17: If you can't read the sign, it says Ventnor...
18: the world's first permanent radio station!
19: The Needles walk was probably the highlight of the IoW trip...
20: ...and finally, my last evening in Ryde. Here's to all the future sunsets.

GARDEN INVICTA. A NEW M-CORP ALBUM.

Download: m-corp.bandcamp.com
Compact Disc: https://elasticstage.com/m-corp/releases/garden-invicta-album
Stream: A continuous body of surface water flowing within the beds and bank of a channel

THERE WILL BE A LISTENING PARTY ON BANDCAMP: FRIDAY APRIL 17, 8PM BST.
The album MAY pop up on Spotify et al that very same day.

Now feels like the right time to release this album after 18 months of quiet hard work... partly because it's a bright, laidback spring/summery kind of vibe, and partly because it was finished last week. The attached slides and audio previews hopefully provide some context as to what the hell we were thinking.

Trust the M-Corporation, and get this round of Kentish electronic jazz music down your gullet.

Thank you and enjoy.

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 4 October 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

There are few composers, classical or otherwise, who can claim to have influenced as many areas of modern music over the last century as Steve Reich. As he celebrates his 90th birthday this weekend, Sine Waves On Sunday reflects on Steve’s early dalliances with electronic music and tape loops, and explores how his interests in repetition, minimalism and speech had far-reaching impacts for countless generations of electronic artists, from the Orb to Kyrla.

Also on the show: Swedish composer Ralph Lundsten’s 90th birthday is celebrated with a reappraisal of his early work with The Andromeda All Stars, while on her dramatically deviating new album, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith moves into a new frenetic realm of ‘Sonic martial arts (…) Sound that holds its shape while everything around it breaks’. Orbital’s legendary Glastonbury set from 1994 gets a new lease of life, Portsmouth’s Simon Heartfield reimagines a 1960s silent French movie ahead of a homecoming gig, and Welsh DIY artist May Swoon confronts their own chronic illness in a startling piece, aptly demonstrating why they were recently announced as one of this year’s Oram Award-winning sound artists.

Ralph Lundsten - 'Horrorscope'
@kaitlynaurelia - 'GTP!'
@simonheartfield - 'Beside Each Lake'
@mayswoonisevul - 'Greystate'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 27 September 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

‘I endeavour through music to delve into all time spaces to tap resources of knowledge and power as ancient as the Universe and as young as unborn worlds, in the hope that I may bring a measure of peace and joy to emotional, spiritual, material and physical complexity that is humankind.’ - Pauline Anna Strom

October 1st would have been the 80th birthday of the blind Californian synthesist, Pauline Anna Strom, and so this week, Sine Waves On Sunday looks back on Pauline’s work, from her initial fascinations in the 1980s with spiritualism, time and causality, right up to her triumphant return to music just before her death in 2020. Her soothing works also meet with new ambient pieces by Trevlad, Modern Apartments, Leafcutter John and The Black Dog, all of which explore a similar ghostly nostalgia.

Elsewhere, we remember Vector Lovers, the project of veteran IDM producer Martin Wheeler, whose death was announced this week. We’ll also hear hectic breakbeats from the Southampton-based nature-obsessed duo ‘someday, sky’, and similar percussive activity from genre pioneers 4hero, in their remix of a track by the violinist Sophie Sirota.

Pauline Anna Strom - 'Morning Splendor'
@inhalt.us - 'Programming'
@trevlad.sounds - 'Bubble Verbs Clipped'
Modern Apartments - 'Light on Water'
@sophiesirotaviola - 'Mood (@4oreh Remix)'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 20 September 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

This week, Sine Waves On Sunday presents another chance to hear immaculate soundboard recordings from the 2026 Synth East Festival, which took place at Norwich Arts Centre back in February. The longest recording is a full live set from DIY improv outsider artist e.m. arson, who presented previews of her debut material (now available on vinyl from Electronic Sound), and a range of homages to various femme pioneers of electronic music, from Clara Rockmore to Delia Derbyshire.

Also appearing: the former snooker player Steve Davis, improvising blind with fellow modular enthusiast and YouTuber Starsky Carr as part of the festival’s trademark All-Star Patch Off. You can also hear another live jam between Robin Vincent and Scanner, an excerpt of dub musician Ardler Saint’s live set, plus a memorable cut from the recent live album by festival headliners, Cabaret Voltaire, ahead of their final UK live dates next month.

Originally broadcast 29th March 2026. Recordings of Synth East kindly supplied by Robin Vincent.

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 13 September 2026, 1500 BST, @voicefmradio

Another radiophonic voyage through the world of electronic music awaits. This week, we hear from Bournemouth-based producer and DJ Ordos Mk.0, as she picks three influential tracks for the latest in our series of guest-curated Triangular Waves. Along the way, we’ll hear how techno artists like Actress and FKA twigs inspired her own varied projects, including a regular series of ‘Music Is The Answer’ DJ nights in Bournemouth, and she’ll also introduce us to the online ‘bonkwave’ movement, via the work of AxWax and Xylander.

Also on the show this week, sound artist Jason Singh writes music using plant biodata, ahead of his performance of a specially written piece at next week’s British Science Festival in Southampton. Loula Yorke takes inspiration from the birds nesting on her studio roof while practising on a borrowed synthesizer, Maxime Denuc drags the pipe organ kicking and screaming into a modern trance setting, and we’ll hear a rare example of early generative music, written back in the 1990s by a local pioneer of the form, Tim Didymus.

C.Circo - 'Pale Blue (@ordosmarkzero Remix)'
@maximedenuc - 'La Paloma'
@shambotic - 'Music Was Gustav's Whole Life'
Tim Didymus - 'Romani'
@sharon_subbarao_music - 'Missing Daydream'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 6 September 2026, 1500 BST, @voicefmradio

Sine Waves On Sunday keeps it well and truly local for this week’s journey into electronic sound, as the names which have informed sonic developments across the South Coast since the early 2010s cross over with those of the current performers who’re now joining them.

We’ll be premiering a new remote collaboration between two abstractionist producers - Southampton’s this occasional society and Denmark’s Samantha Dubs - and we also play music from the electronic acts set to perform at this month’s Music In The City on the 12th of September, when over 1800 musicians will be playing in 59 venues all across Southampton, including local instrumentalist Arboresque, Polish-born improviser Canis Arboris, and the pop trios Continental Liaison and Vacant Shores.

We’ll also be taking a nostalgic trip back to 2011 and exploring what the electronic music of the South Coast may have sounded like back then, in celebration of Voice FM’s 15th birthday this week. Expect well-matured highlights from the first album by one of Southampton’s most popular local producers, State Azure, along with a dubby head trip from his neighbour, the DJ known as Big Bud.
Representing Portsmouth: CURXES and former Planet Mu signing The Gasman, whose sharp abrasions contrast with the smoother Winchester-made synthpop of Scarlet Soho, and the hedonistic acid house of Bournemouth veteran, Chris Moss Acid.

15 years of local electronic history, crammed into one hour, as the past meets the present - such is the time-distorting magic of electronic music.

@state_azure - 'Cloudscapes'
@gasmanmusic - 'Hoovers'
@scarletsoho - 'This Nausea'
Big Bud - 'Wadada dUb'
Chris Moss Acid - 'Well Well Well Well'
CURXES - 'Jaws'
Samantha Dubs @thisoccasionalsociety - 'The 3rd Track'
@canis_arboris - 'Kilburn Park'
@continental_liaison - 'Soon'
@vacantshores - '(There Are) Holes In The Ocean'
@arboresque.music - 'Polypore'
Samantha Dubs @thisoccasionalsociety - 'On The Field Of Dharma'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 30 August 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

Sine Waves On Sunday stands in solidarity with Southampton Pride this week, celebrating a wide variety of electronic music and artists from across the LGBTQIA+ community. These include some of the most exciting and progressive names of the past decade, such as SOPHIE, Octo Octa and Jlin, plus two very different pieces from exactly 40 years ago by Bronski Beat and Wendy Carlos, both of whom did much to bring the magic of synthesisers to a mass audience.

The producer known as Fflwcs proudly presents a new manic hybrid of Welsh culture and queer ballroom music, while John Cage’s love of indeterminacy reaches its peak in a modern recording of his 1952 piece for tape recordings, ‘Imaginary Landscape No 5’. Swedish transgender producer Samantha Jane Smith explores the darker side of childhood nursery rhymes in her latest live improvisation, and there’s a similar free spirit to be heard in the work of Midwest America’s Violet Housewife. We also remember hi-NRG innovator Patrick Cowley, and, 30 years on from his untimely death, there’s a rare chance to hear the final contemplative piece of music by Australian DJ Robert Racic (otherwise unavailable on modern streaming services).

@msmsmsm_forever - 'BIPP'
@octoocta - 'Keep Pressing On'
Patrick Cowley - 'Ice Age (feat. Peggy Gibbons)'
Magicman (Robert Racic) - 'Blue'
Wendy Carlos - 'Beauty In The Beast'
@realfflwcs - 'High (Low Low)'
Samantha Jane Smith - 'In Confidence May Bind'
@violet_housewife - 'Harina'
@jlin_p - 'Grannie's Cherry Pie'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 23 August 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

"Sound is like putty, it's elastic. You can do anything with it." - William Orbit

Following the recent passing of William Orbit, ‘Sine Waves On Sunday’ looks back upon a producer who so often informed the mainstream direction of electronic music - whether it was the early homemade recordings of his first synth group, Torch Song, his collaborations with the likes of Kraftwerk and Madonna that saw him cross over into wider pop culture, the classical covers, or his mellower, more laidback pieces which seem to foreshadow the ‘chill-out’ direction that much of popular music would ultimately take. Music from across the vast spectrum of William Orbit’s long, prestigious career… Nothing more.

Except there is more… Also on the show this week: a classic 70s film soundtrack from Soviet electronic pioneer Eduard Artemyev, Belgian producer n3wjack’s soundtrack to his own road trip of South Korea, and long-awaited new works from two American composers, Lusine and Tyondai Braxton.

@williamorbit @bethorton - 'Water From A Vine Leaf'
n3wjack - 'Sokcho'
@lusine_music - 'Bird's Eye'
@tyondaibraxton - 'Vali'
Eduard Artemyev - 'Solaris Part 2'
Torch Song - 'Prepare To Energize'
@kraftwerkofficial - 'Radioactivity (William Orbit Hardcore Remix)'
@williamorbit - 'Colours Colliding'
@williamorbit - 'Paradisum'
@madonna - 'Ray Of Light'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 16 August 2026, 1500 BST
@voicefmradio

This week, ‘Sine Waves On Sunday’ presents another varied trip through the wilder extremes of electronic music, including the latest Sine Waves Session, improvised in real time on a self-built modular setup by the artist Elif Yalvaç.

Originally from Turkey, where she studied her masters and wrote a thesis on the virtues of chip music, Elif Yalvaç is now based in London, where she teaches electronic music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, curates several live events including Heart Of Noise, co-presents ‘Talk To The Chip’ on Resonance FM… and, of course, makes her own music. Her latest EP, ‘Hypnopomp’, explores her desire for ‘Creative freedom and building an authentic image by remaining true to your own values and learnings, while still remaining open to genuine interest and criticism.’

Elsewhere in the show, we pay tribute to synthesizer pioneer Patrick Gleeson by celebrating his Grammy-nominated retelling of Gustav Holst’s beloved ‘Planets’ suite. On her latest single, Colleen uses her trusted Moog Matriarch to reflect on the power of love in the wake of a family bereavement. There are also recently unearthed demos and early tracks from 80s sampling maestros Negativland and Portion Control, and new releases from Southampton-based producer 'and.the.ghosts', Berlin-based Ukrainian-Russian combo buttechno & Triš, and Bristol’s Imogen Hayley Baker, enigmatically masquerading as ‘Daily Mail Comments Section’.

Patrick Gleeson - 'Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity'
@portioncontrolofficial - 'H.O.T. Matter (Demo version 1)'
@negativlandland - 'Dear Mary'
@and.the.ghosts - 'Maybe Everything Is Fine'
@buttechn @tris_oleksandra - 'carry the wind'
Daily Mail Comments Section - 'Low Effort Techno Built Around a Sample Of Billie Hitting Concrete With a Hammer'

SINE WAVES ON SUNDAY
Sunday 9 August 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

“Of all non-verbal communication, the art of music has been the most successful and has been so from its beginning. The sensation of the sound itself is the communicating source.”

So said Alwin Nikolais: the first person to buy a Moog synthesizer, which he then used along with other later synthesizers to compose the soundtracks for his own distinctive dance choreographies. Along with unusual staging and lighting techniques, Alwin used electronic music to create a surreal, enveloping world where the normal rules of art, music and theatre need not apply. Following the recent reissue of some of Alvin’s ‘electronic dance music’, we play two extracts on this week’s edition of ‘Sine Waves On Sunday’.

There will also be dance music of a different kind from South Coast techno producer Simon Heartfield and the late lamented French DJ Kavinsky, along with South African synthwave from the long-awaited debut album by Hunter As A Horse. Warmfield delivers his usual brand of misty nostalgia, this time with a love letter to the River Calder, and the weekly pile of new electronic releases is rounded off by Battery Operated Orchestra, Ash Noodle, Solar Phasing and Cloud Canyons.

@hunterasahorse - 'Paradise Lost'
@warmfieldmusic - 'Elland'
@solarphasing - 'Cell Division'
@cloudcanyonsband - 'Come Unto These Yellow Sands'
@simonheartfield - 'Beam Splitter'
Alwin Nikolais - 'Graph (Dance III) (1984)'; 'Crucible (Excerpt) (1985)'
@booelectric - 'Open Door'
Ash Noodle - 'So Long Gone ARG! Rework'
@kavinsky - 'Grand Canyon'

Sunday 2 August 2026, 1500 BST @voicefmradio

Sine Waves On Sunday pays an overdue visit to the monthly open mic that is Bournemouth EMOM to hear what delightful synthy sounds have been emanating from the Four Horsemen pub over the last couple of months. Highlights from Bournemouth EMOM this summer include first-time performer Eleanor Verrier, who sampled Delia Derbyshire to great effect in her rousing bleep techno set, the classically trained violinist Sophie Sirota, plus the Bournemouth EMOM veteran and modular experimenter, GM.NX.

Enjoy - and don’t forget, the next Bournemouth EMOM is on Thursday 20th August…
