I haven’t been around much lately… and honestly, life is so great right now.

It’s important to listen to what your soul is craving.

I moved back to the island.

I got engaged.

I’m working doing something I love.

This is a season of re-direct.

Give yourself the space to grow. Catch you here as I sort it out. by @realtalkry

Ive heard a lot about burnout, and I knew it was difficult…but I wasn’t prepared for how difficult it actually is.

I think what makes it challenging is how slowly it seems to happen. At first, I just felt tired. Nothing too out of the norm. But then emotions around what you’re doing become stale. Not bad, just stale. Even things I enjoy doing, I just couldn’t be bothered to do.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that burnout doesn’t usually come from one hard day, it comes from too many days of ignoring yourself.

What’s helping me now is getting back to basics. Quality sleep. Eating regularly (even this becomes difficult). Sunlight. Going for short walks. I’ve simplified my expectations and started letting “enough” be enough for a while.

If you’re in it too… be patient with yourself. Sometimes healing starts by stopping what’s draining you. If you don’t know where to start, circle back to the basics. by @realtalkry

It’s funny how the things that scare you can evolve with time: A movie, the dark, a slightly opened closet… or being eaten by a shark, etc.

Sometimes the fear goes away… like it was never even there. The first time you drive a car.. scary. But by the 500th trip, you don’t even think about driving anymore.

Sometimes it deepens. We let our mind run with it…
and it turns into something bigger than it ever was. I’m 37 and I still run up the basement stairs… just incase :p

And then sometimes… what scares you isn’t the thing itself anymore:
it’s the thought that you might never do it at all.

That’s the one that sticks with you. That’s the one that’s swimming around my brain right now. by @realtalkry

Maybe it’s just nostalgic hindsight… but there was something about the 90s that felt special.

Not perfect and certainly not always convenient,
but simple in a way we took for granted.

Constant access to each other just wasn’t a thing. When someone called the house, it meant something. You either answered… or you missed it. And if you were calling friends that weren’t home, you simply went down the list and called another friend. (You also knew all their numbers off the top of your head. )

Plans weren’t “tentative,” or seen as continually optional.
You picked a time, a place, and you showed up. Without any real way of instantly communicating, there was no last minute “bailing.” No “on my way.”

If you were bored, you stayed bored long enough to become creative.
You went outside. You built blanket forts. You rode your bike with no destination, and somehow, every trip was an adventure.

Music wasn’t background noise or over burdened by choice. You listened to full albums; on repeat. You waited for your favorite song to come on the radio. And when it did, you felt something real.

You didn’t know everything about everyone.

Time seemed to last forever because everything was new.

You drove around with your friends on the weekend.

Movie nights were a whole event. You’d gather up some friends, hit blockbuster, over load on snacks, and stay up later than your parents so you could secretly watch the second movie you rented that you weren’t supposed to.

It was the last decade to hold on to the special remnants of the past, while slowly blending into the future.

Life wasn’t optimized all of the time. It was lived.

And I think that’s what made it feel so real… by @realtalkry

I’m not going to say with absolute certainty what purpose is, or isn’t. But to me, purpose has always been whatever it is I’m doing.

This doesn’t mean you have to know what you’re doing or even why, but I know that actively making choices is what actually makes you an active participant in your life.

Random things happen that change your direction. But I think it’s really difficult to even recognize good opportunities that present them selves if you don’t have at least one hand on the steering wheel. by @realtalkry

I’m not going to sit here and say I’ve had the worst problems or struggles in the world. There are in fact people facing things that I can’t even begin to imagine. But just because the worst of the worst hasn’t happened to me, doesn’t mean my experience is any less validated. It’s mine. Just like yours are yours.

When someone says, ‘You’ve never had real problems,’
what they’re really saying is,
‘I need my pain to be acknowledged.’ And I think that’s human.

But pain isn’t a competition.

Just because someone doesn’t look like they’re drowning doesn’t mean they didn’t learn how to swim the hard way. by @realtalkry

You don’t know what you don’t know. And sometimes you don’t even realize what you do know and how it can be helpful to you or others.

Trust your process. Trust yourself. Confidence is a by product of proving to yourself that you can handle it. by @realtalkry

Obviously there’s some nuance here. But I think following directions has become so normalized, that we forget there was a time when “the way” didn’t exist.

Someone had to march into uncertainty. Choosing a path and having to adjust, isn’t failure, it’s growth.

The only real mistake is letting yourself marinate in the inaction that inevitably follows the need to be right before you go. by @realtalkry
