“You can jail a revolutionary but you can’t jail the revolution. You can run a freedom fighter around the country but you can’t run freedom fighting around the country. You can murder a liberator but you can’t murder a liberation.”
— Chairman Fred Hampton

Who would have thought a little girl from the Bronx? Some days I can’t even believe it. God will really seat you at tables you’ve never imagined. I had the honor of breaking bread with @officialchairmanfredhamptonjr and his powerful mother Akua Njeri. I’m still in awe! These are the very people whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to freedom inspire me to keep doing this work.

Every step of the journey has prepared me to be here. To sit, listen, learn, and be poured into by my elders is something I’ll never take for granted.

Here’s to carrying the legacy forward, honoring those who paved the way, and continuing the fight for freedom and liberation ✊🏾🤎

Juneteenth weekend was a blast, so I just had to ask:

What’s your FAVORITE thing about being Black? 🖤✊🏾

Realizing that I’m exactly who God says I am.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” — Proverbs 31:25

Most recently I came off the Virginia redistricting campaign where we knocked over 110,000 doors in Fairfax, and now I’m headed to Iowa to run another office. Many are called, but few are chosen. I’m so thankful to be chosen by Him to do this work.

When I look in the mirror, I see a woman who persisted. A woman who never gives up. A woman who consistently turns her pain into power and purpose.
When God gave me the name “Real World Changer,” I knew He had a major plan for me. I’m going to continue to lead by example and change the world. Walking in purpose, faith, and a whole lot of Black girl magic ✨

Julius Darius Jones should be free!

Julius Jones was on death row in Oklahoma for 19 years for a 1999 murder he’s always said he had no part in. Mr. Jones, who was represented by federal attorneys Dale Baich and Amanda Bass, was convicted and sentenced to death at the age of 19 and has now spent over half his life in prison for a crime he DID NOT commit.

Today is a VERY important day!

Three years ago from today, three hours before Julius was scheduled to be executed Governor Stitt commuted his sentence to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

While we are grateful that Julius’ life was spared three years ago, he is still an innocent man confined to jail for a crime evidence proves he DID NOT commit.

Most recently, myself and the other Julius Jones Institute Fellows went to the Oklahoma State Capitol where we learned from @definitelynotcindy and OK State Rep @repajaypittman about how to better advocate for Julius and others who are wrongfully housed (incarcerated).

Together, with the help of all of you I truly believe that we will bring Julius home. We must advocate to end the death penalty which disproportionately impacts communities of color.

Juneteenth was amazing!! 💥

From the Exodus exhibit to the Know Your Rights Training and the Juke Joint, every moment was meaningful.

As someone deeply engaged in social justice work, spending time with my community isn’t just important but it’s necessary. It’s what fuels me, grounds me, and reminds me why I do this work.
Grateful, inspired, and recharged ✊🏾

It’s kinda chic to be a real-world changer. ✨

This current project in Memphis has stretched me in ways I never imagined, but it has also reminded me just how much of a blessing it is to be trusted with meaningful work.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to empower Black and Brown communities, help people make their voices heard, and encourage our communities to get out and vote. Our voices and our votes matter!

This work is bigger than a project. It’s purpose. It’s impact. It’s community. #vote #bethechange by @realworldchanger

Sincere, my heart is crushed 💔
The last time I saw you, we laughed so hard. You made me feel so bad about going home that I ended up hanging out with you guys all night. You followed me all the way home just to make sure I was safe. You were so kind, such a protector. I’m so glad we had that time together, bro.

You made space for me in your world, connecting me with other changemakers. You pushed me to start my consulting firm, and I was so sure yours was about to take off too. You had vision. You had love. And with all you had gone through, you still carried compassion. You were a gentle giant, a true champion for change. You moved the people to act and fiercely advocated for legislative change.

We were supposed to link up to celebrate the latest wins in our lives, and now we will never have that opportunity. I guess we always think we have more time.
You had just texted me on Tuesday making sure I signed on to the REFORM bill. That’s just who you were.

If love could have saved you, I know you’d still be here.
This is a reminder to check in on your people. Love people while they are here. Be kind. You never know what silent battle a person may be facing.
Love you forever, Sin. Thank you for everything. I promise to make you proud and continue the work you’ve started 🤞🏾

It still gives me chills knowing I had the honor of presenting on the very ground where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered.

July was all about IMPACT 🌎⛓️‍💥 — from speaking on community engagement and HBCU campus policing in Memphis, to celebrating Ferrone & Terence coming home in RVA, to graduating with REFORM Advocacy Institute Cohort 3 at Yale.

I am standing on the shoulders of my ancestors who dreamed of me doing this very work. They knew their sacrifices would not be in vain. I’m grateful for the voice I’ve been given. I’m walking in purpose, leading by example, and striving to be the change I want to see.

Everyone has the power to be a world changer — but you must choose to show up and do the work.

What a way to close out Women’s History Month 💐

Our Women Who Built event was nothing short of powerful. From the panel to the room itself, the energy was filled with growth, transparency, and real conversations that can truly help shape the foundation for other women to elevate.

A huge thank you to our amazing panelists for pouring into the room and sharing gems that will stick with us long after the event. And shoutout to our incredible moderator Jackie, who led the conversation with intention and brought out powerful insights from each speaker.

The connections made, the knowledge shared, and the support in that room was everything we envisioned—and more.

Thank you to every woman who came out and contributed to such a meaningful experience 🤍

And special thanks to @jdstakeout for the amazing food!

We ended Women’s History Month the right way—with purpose, power, and community 💼✨ by @realworldchanger

Visiting Terence Richardson is always bittersweet. While I’m happy to see him, learn from him and support him, the pain that I feel when I leave often overwhelms me.

Who is Terence Richardson? Well he’s one of two Virginia men (Terence Richardson and Ferrone Claiborne) serving life in prison after being found not guilty by a federal grand jury. Unbelievable right?

They committed no crime. They’ve already served over 23 years each but with the most recent evidentiary hearing and oral arguments we are believing that Terence and Ferrone could finally get their new trial.

We need a legal system that is rooted in truth and accountability. If not rooted in both it can’t be just. A federal judge and a legal loophole stole time from Ferrone and Terence that they can never get back. We must work together to ensure that this never happens again.

Terence and Ferrone are two outstanding men. They have participated in numerous programs, mentored dozens of men and serve as a light for so many in prison even in their own suffering. At visitation you can see that the love that the other housed citizens (inmates) and officers have for them is genuine. They too believe that these innocent men should be freed. Ferrone and Terrence are fighting hard to come home I ask that you would share this message and help fight fo them too.
