💔 Our sweet Sage. 💔

Sage was the beginning of Allen and me. Literally, the very first decision we ever made together.

I was working out in South Dakota when Sage and a small litter of puppies were found after being tossed out on the side of the road. And somehow, out of all the people and all the possibilities… she chose me. And I will forever be grateful that she did.

There’s something about rescue dogs. They’ve got some trust issues, for sure 😂 — but when they decide you’re their person, they love you with everything they have.

Sage always watched over us. Always protected us. When she was outside, she never really looked toward the woods or down the road. She looked at the house. At us. Always keeping watch over her family.

I think somewhere deep down, she knew. She knew we had brought her somewhere safe. Somewhere she would never be left behind again. A home where she would be loved completely and unconditionally, all the way until the very end.

Before we found our forever home in Traverse City, Sage traveled the country with us. She was there for every chapter and every first. Dating. Our wedding. Our first home. And then she gracefully stepped into her role as big sister when we brought Aurora into the world…and then Jade. ❤️

She carried us through some of our hardest days. She caught so many tears. And she was right there for so many of our greatest joys and triumphs.

She has been a constant through the story of us.

What an incredible gift it has been to grow alongside her. To watch our lives change while she remained steady, loyal, protective, and always right there.

We are so blessed that somehow, on the side of a road in South Dakota all those years ago, we found each other.

We know we’ll see you again someday, sweet girl. Until then, fly high. Run free. And I hope wherever you are, there are endless fields, warm sunshine, and every single tennis ball you could ever dream of. 🎾💔

For as long as I can remember, my dad always greeted me with, “Hi angel.” And every goodbye was, “I love you, angel.” He learned it from my grandpa Baar, and it became part of who he was—his girls were his angels. His granddaughters too.

But today, the word has changed forever. Today, he is my angel.

These last weeks have been heavy, filled with heartache, watching someone I love so deeply endure so much. But today, with all the love in our hearts, we let him go. We release him from the weight, the pain, the hardship.

In his final hours, God gave us a moment of pure beauty. His beloved Covenant Choir gathered outside his bedroom window and sang for him. Their voices rose up, carrying the hymns he loved, filling the air with peace. We know he could hear them. We know their music lifted him, helped him let go, and guided him home. It touched us more deeply than words can say.

My family is my treasure. Together we have carried each other through this chapter with tears, with sorrow, and with love deeper than words can hold. In his final moments, we gathered around him—in the home he built, in the space he poured his heart into. Surrounded by guitars, fly-tying and fishing supplies, photos from every corner of his life… all the things and people that made him happiest. It was sacred. It was him.

As his daughter, I don’t have words big enough to explain what he was to me. He was my protector, my encourager, my safe place, my constant. My grief feels endless. But even stronger is my gratitude—for every memory, every lesson, every ounce of love he gave so freely.

He was a man of faith, of community, of advocacy, of generosity and kindness so real it touched everyone who knew him. He built a life of love and he poured it into us. I can only hope to live in a way that carries forward his spirit, his strength, and his tenderness.

Dad, I love you more than words will ever hold. My angel, forever.

5 YEARS OF EVO. ❤️

Where do I even begin?

Five years of showing up, sweating together, laughing together, crying together, and building something so much bigger than any of us could have imagined.

When I think about what EVO means to me, I’m overwhelmed with emotion. Because somewhere along the way, these four walls became so much more than a gym. They became a home and a family.

We have walked through SO much life together. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Success and defeat. Happiness and heartbreak. New beginnings and painful goodbyes. We’ve celebrated marriages, welcomed babies, watched friendships blossom.

And THAT is what this is all about.

Sure, we build strong muscles here. We push limits, chase goals, and do things we once thought were impossible. But the strength that means the most to me isn’t measured in pounds lifted or workouts completed.

It’s measured in the bonds we’ve built, the people we’ve become, and the way we continue to show up for one another.

To my team: The heart you pour into this place, the energy you bring, and the people you inspire mean more than you’ll ever know. I’m so incredibly proud of what we’ve built together.

To our members: YOU are the heartbeat of EVO. You’ve trusted us with your goals, your struggles, your stories, and pieces of your lives. You’ve allowed us to be part of your journeys, and in return, you’ve become such an important part of mine.

The truth is, EVO has given me far more than I could ever give back. It has challenged me, humbled me, strengthened me, and carried me through seasons of life I never could have anticipated. There have been days when I thought I was showing up for everyone else, only to realize this community was showing up for me.

This is my favorite place to be.

The hugs. The laughter. Inappropriate jokes. The sweat. The tears. The conversations before and after class. The familiar faces that make even the hardest days feel lighter.

Five years ago, we opened a gym. Somewhere along the way, we built a family.

I feel unbelievably lucky to call this place mine, ours, and yours.

SETBACKS.

Sick all summer. Injured. Discouraged. Some days, the weight of everything felt too heavy to carry.

But I keep coming back to this:

Movement—no matter how slow—is still movement.

Maybe progress isn’t pushing harder. Maybe it’s just refusing to stop.

Moving for my mental health. Choosing positivity. Giving myself grace while staying determined. Trusting that small steps still move me forward.

Sometimes it’s simply showing up when life gives you every reason not to.

Slow is still forward.
