Yes yes people.

We have an exciting evening coming up at The Dominion Centre of Arts this October as we welcome back The Enchanters to their hometown Southall after 40 years, for an evening celebrating their unique roots reggae sound which took over stages and venues across the country during the time of Rock Against Racism.

I am also super excited to announce that alongside the live music performance from @theblackenchanter1977 we are currently curating an exhibition in collaboration with photographer, graphic designer and legend @syd.shelton.9

Syd become one of the key activists in the Rock Against Racism movement (RAR). He was a photographer and one of the key designers of the RAR magazine Temporary Hoarding (1976 to 1981) and we are honoured to have the opportunity to curate the space to celebrate his work and legacy across R.A.R and Southall.

Grateful also to @lovemusichateracism who join us for a special pop up on the day and @rebelsandpilgrims who will have some exciting opportunities for local musicians and artists to perform in the evening.

A huge shout out to the amazingly talented @av.makes @sehmiskimmed for designing and creating the artwork and poster, It’s incredible and we fully appreciate you being part of this with us and also to Derek and Judith Merrill, campaigners and organisers behind R.A.R in Southall, who have been working hard to share information with us from the archives for the exhibition. As teachers and friends to The Enchanters and Misty in Roots, your contribution to the artists and conversation in Southall is unique and we give thanks for your support and guidance.

Last Friday was such a moment for Southall 💥

When a big name comes through with a gig like this, local talent can easily get missed, so I wanted to spotlight four incredible artists. And thankfully @aartipopat from @desitrill was totally up for it! 🙌🏽

Picking just four was tough, but with music line-ups rarely gender balanced, I wanted to do my bit to support that 🎶💜

🫶🏽 It’s as simple as that. Small acts like this where we connect the opportunity to the talent to create real moments for our creative community to shine ✨

This season really is the gift that keeps on giving 🎁🔥

Episode 28 of The Intersections Podcast is here, and this week we’re joined by the brilliant Matt Cham for The Trans Man’s Experience.

Matt brings such a wealth of experience to this conversation, both professionally as a Diversity, Equality & Inclusion expert and personally as a trans man.

We get into his evolving relationship with masculinity, how his understanding of it has shifted over time, and what it means to find a version of masculinity that actually feels like your own.

We also explore what masculinity could look like beyond all the rules and expectations we’ve inherited. Because whether you’re cis or trans, being a man shouldn’t have to mean performing a particular version of manhood to prove that you belong.

What happens when we give men the space to feel grounded and secure in their identities, without the performance? 👀

Meet your 7 artists representing each town across the borough of Ealing! 🥳🥳

They’ll be running their indvidual, one off, workshops across October - November in community spaces from local youth centres to libraries to cafes. ✨

And we just love to see this connectedness. Creating opportunities to connect spaces to artists and to young people. It’s what Rebels & Pilgrims is all about.

The more we build this creative community in West London, the more opportunities there will be for everyone to enjoy creativity and lead a fulfilling career.

We’re well and truly on a roll 🎙️🔥 Our latest episode, The Motherhood & Masculinity Experience, is out now with the fantastic Helen Styles, safeguarding expert and mum of two teenage boys.

We delve into the mixed messages young men receive about who they’re supposed to be, intersectionality and the different factors that shape their experiences, and how social media can be both an empowering and dangerous space for boys and young men.

We also get into gender stereotypes, the pressures placed on boys from an early age, and what it can look like to make space for young men to express the full range of who they are, rather than squeezing them into outdated ideas of masculinity.

As both a safeguarding expert and a mother, Helen brings such an interesting perspective to the conversation, balancing what she sees professionally with what she’s navigating at home.

If you’re raising, teaching, supporting or simply sharing space with the next generation of young men, there’s plenty to get into with this one.

The Queer Man’s Experience

We’re joined by Dr Paul Taylor-Pitt for a conversation that goes in so many directions, from masculinity and identity to ageing, visibility and what it means to move through midlife as a queer man.

Paul reflects on how his own relationship with queerness and masculinity has shifted over the years, alongside the stories and experiences he encountered while writing his book, Still Here! Still Queer! Now What?

We loved getting into the idea that our identities don’t just arrive fully formed and stay there. They move with us. Our understanding of ourselves can change as we age, and there’s something pretty freeing about making space for that. 🫶🏾

And with so many conversations about queerness centred around youth, this one makes some much-needed room for what comes next.

We’re joined by Quaam, a Black British Nigerian dad raising two young boys in the UK, for a conversation about fatherhood, masculinity and creating space for the next generation to express themselves fully.

Black men and boys deserve the space to experience and express the full range of human emotion, both the joy and the difficult stuff.

Too often, they’re expected to live up to narrow ideas of masculinity that leave very little room for vulnerability, softness or simply being human.

So what does it look like to raise Black boys differently? To give them permission to feel, express and just be? 🖤
