Kennedy’s approach to working with young people is characterized by a rejection of the “at-risk” label and a focus on instilling positivity and resilience. As a veteran and retired firefighter, he understands the importance of mentorship and guidance. While competitive boxing is an option for some, Kennedy’s primary goal is to nurture personal growth and academic achievement. Today, we honor the men and women who have served this country with courage, sacrifice, and heart.

As a veteran, service has shaped every bit of my life. From the uniform I wore, to the way I lead, to the community we’ve built here at Rec-Mode.

This gym was created with the same values I learned through service: discipline, resilience, teamwork, and taking care of the people beside you.

To my fellow veterans: thank you for your service, your strength, and the sacrifices you and your families have made. We are stronger together.

A long weekend but beautiful weekend continuing the work called to do. Thank you, Sista Tiffany Kelly, for inviting me to speak at the inaugural Mid-County Democratic Breakfast Club Summit in Gaithersburg. I was honored to join the panel on the Black experience in Mid-County alongside Zakiya Sankara-Jabar, co-founder and co-executive director of Racial Justice NOW!; Willie Flowers, president of the Howard County NAACP; Dayvon Love, director of public policy at Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle; and Petros Bein, educator and co-coordinator of the Black Alliance for Peace’s Baltimore Citywide Alliance.

Much love to other community impact leaders Luis Cardona and Isabella Wise of the Street Outreach Network, and Nora Morales, program director at Identity. My councilmembers made me proud today. In today’s special hearing, the health and human services commission voted unanimously on a special appropriation that will help to find programming at @recmodefitness. Miss folks, this is a family run business that deeply invest in the youth of our community and they don’t turn one of them away. Ever. We need to expand this program from downtown county to Up County.
