POSTS STORIES REELS
On Season Four, host Gabe McCauley continues reconnecting Americans to the roots of our progress. We’ll explore the history of Photography, Food, Clothing, Shelter, Forecasting, Firefighting, News and Games… but we can’t do it alone! Take a closer look – you might just notice your favorite gamer-actress-geek (Felicia Day), sustainable fashion designer (Jeff Garner), meteorologist (Jim Cantore), chef (Mashama Bailey), founder of 3D-printed homes (Jason Ballard), New York firefighter (Paul Hashagen), slow journalist (Rob Orchard), or National Geographic photographer (Joel Sartore). Join us as we probe out our past, uncover how we achieved prosperity, and search for the values worth holding on to across generations. We can’t wait to share this season with you! Life is moving forward so fast, both technologically and culturally. So how do we stay attached to the roots that made us? Great question – that’s why we’re here! Reconnecting Roots is all about taking a moment to reflect on the heritage that’s still all around us, and using it to spark conversations across generations. We are a team of free thinkers inspired by American ideals, devoted to sharing stories that illuminate the past and guide us forward. Through our TV show, music, podcasts, and more, we inspire learning, reminding our audience to take a deep breath and check in on what’s being lost. • • • #ReconnectingRoots #Docuseries #TVseries #PBS #History #FeliciaDay #JeffGarner #JimCantore #MashamaBailey #JoelSartore #firekid #Photograph #ConversationPhotography #NationalGeographic #HistoryShow #Food #SlowCooking #Clothing #SustainableFashion #Shelter #3Dprintedhomes #Forecasting #Meteorology #SlowJournalism #DelayedGratification #Firefighting #Gamers #AmericanHistory #MusicHistory by @reconnectingrootstv

Reconnecting Roots’ very own Dillon Hodges (firekid) recently took home the title of National Flat Picking Champion at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. We are proud as punch of our very own house band guitar virtuoso. Dillon first won the National Championships at the young age of just 17 and now has come back 19 years later to reclaim the title. Congrats to Dillon! You can listen to his award winning tunes from his new album, Solo Flat Picking -Dillon Hodges, on all streaming platforms. And as always you can enjoy the masterful picking of Dillon alongside Mandy McCauley and Heidi Feek on our season soundtracks. Gather round for a short story: Once upon a time, in the early 2000’s, Gabe got to work on a music video shoot with Queen Dolly Parton. Today in Nashville, we are celebrating 9-2-5 day. So, in honor of Dolly, here is a picture of baby Gabe with Dolly long before he was the host of Reconnecting Roots. When piecing together our “Working” episode from season three, there was no doubt we’d drop “9 to 5” to start the episode. A perfect song for talking about work from a near perfect lady. Dolly, your work is finally over but your legacy lives on. #925day #ReconnectingRoots #reconnectingroots #reconnectingrootstv #reconnectingrootspbs #dollyparton #dolly by @reconnectingrootstv

A significant inspiration for Reconnecting Roots has been the work of Wendell Berry. One of America’s most profound writers and thinkers. May he rest in peace. Here is a quote about education from his most notable work, “The unsettling of America.” “It could be said that a liberal education has the nature of a bequest, in that it looks upon the student as the potential heir of a cultural birthright, whereas a practical education has the nature of a commodity to be exchanged for position, stature, wealth, etc., in the future. A liberal education rests on the assumption that nature and human nature do not change very much or very fast and that one therefore needs to understand the past. The practical educators assume that human society itself is the only significant context, that change is therefore fundamental, constant, and necessary, that the future will be wholly unlike the past, that the past is outmoded, irrelevant, and an encumbrance upon the future — the present being only a time for dividing past from future, for getting ready.” - Wendell Berry #educationinamerica #unsettlingofamerica #wendellberry #reconnectingroots by @reconnectingrootstv
You might recognize Josh Childs as a recurring actor on Reconnecting Roots, famous for memorable roles like Abraham Lincoln in our baseball episode or the boss in our "The Office" parody during the working episode. But did you know he is also one of our fabulous directors? Take a look at this behind-the-scenes moments from our Bourbon episode, where Josh is hard at work directing a group of rough cowboys—convincing them to put away their guns while warning them that their wives are about to catch them gambling and drinking! Head over to our YouTube channel to check out the full scene! Link in bio. by @reconnectingrootstv
It’s been 7 years too long since Gabe had some Murphy’s ice cream. 🍦 Dingle Sea Salt and Irish Brown Bread combo hit the spot. Gabe spent some time in Donegal reconnecting with Macaulay’s from around the world for a clan gathering, but no trip to the Emerald Isle would be complete without some Murphy’s ice cream. Check out the link in our bio for a clip from our episode on Irish Immigration with co-founder of Murphy’s ice cream, Sean Murphy. by @reconnectingrootstv

Ever wonder how Reconnecting Roots began? Sign up for our email list at reconnectingroots.com to learn about Frank Smith and the book that started it all. Help us celebrate 250 years of freedom as we learn from our past while dreaming of an even better future. by @reconnectingrootstv
Remember that time Gabe got to act like Ben Stein from "Ferris Bueller's day off?" We recreated the iconic scene but this time with Gabe as the professor and Ben as a bored out of his mind student, all right inside Ben Stein's home office. It's been 40 years since the classic movie was released and Ben is still schooling people like Gabe on economics. Check out this clip from our Season Three episode on the Dollar.
