Today we celebrate the courage of those who have chosen to live out loud as their authentic selves. Today we honor those who are still struggling.

Coming Out is no easy task, and the journey looks different for everyone. Safety in visibility is a major component of the process and not everyone has access to a safe space. We need to be that for each other, today, and always.

We still have so much work to do to ensure that everyone feels safe to be their truest of selves.

Wherever you are in your journey, your queerness is valid. You don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to have it all figured out.

You'll have to pardon our lack of photos for this one; we were having such a good time that we completely forgot the pictures!

Our first ever Queer Book Swap & Sip partnership between @reddeerpride and @gay.book.cult was an absolute success. We can't thank the community enough for coming out and supporting this initiative. Whether you've been lurking the Book Cult for a while or heard about the event through a friend, you're an avid reader of queer horror or are just getting into books, you never leave the comfort of your cozy home full of cats or came as the emotional support partner - you are welcome here. Thank you for taking a chance to meet new folks on this beautiful Sunday fall day. We see you and appreciate you 💜

Everyone went home with at least 2 new-to-them books and any leftover ones were donated to Rosie's Library with @newqns 📚

Thank you to our wonderful hosts at @sunworksliving , the inviting basement space was the perfect set up for our event. They even had KD Lang on the stereo when we arrived. What an absolute gem these people are.

We acknowledge the lands we live, work, play, and live on are the traditional territory of Treaty 6 and 7 peoples - including the Dene, Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), the Tsuut'ina Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda Nations (Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney) as well as the Mētis People of District 3.

Today we remember those lost to residential schools.

Today we honor the survivors.

Today we listen to and uplift indigenous voices.

Today we learn without asking to be taught.

Today we support indigenous businesses, artists, and causes.

And tomorrow, we repeat.

The day after, we repeat.

All year long - we continue the work towards reconciliation. Because it isn't just about one day - it is a lifelong and continuous process.

We're back with a cozy collab for the upcoming chilly season!

Red Deer Pride and Gay Book Cult present:

QUEER BOOK SWAP & SIP
Sunday, October 4
1 - 3 PM
Sunworks Studios (downstairs)
110, 4913 50 Ave
Red Deer

How it works: bring a queer book (either a queer author or topic), and donate to the designated book swap table upon arrival. Feel free to leave a note inside your book if you want to connect with its new owner to chat about the book.

Support our gracious host by grabbing a warm drink and delicious baked good (or two - no judgement)! Sip, browse the available books, and mingle!

To keep the swap fair to all, we will make an announcement before the start of the official swap. Our hope is that everyone leaves with a new-to-them book.

Don't have a book? No problem! Come join the fun anyway.

Registration to attend is required as spots are limited! Registration for this book swap is completely free and can be booked through our link in bio.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the tragedy that occurred yesterday at Berlin Pride. Our hearts are with those who have been affected along with their loved ones. No one should have to fear for their lives while celebrating who they are. Sending love to our 2SLGBTQIA+ siblings in Berlin, and worldwide. We mourn for those lost or suffering, and we stand with Berlin.

WHAT. A. WEEK.

Red Deer Pride Week 2026 has officially come to a close and we want to express our most sincere and deepest gratitude to everyone who had even the slightest hand in helping to make it happen.

From the generosity of our sponsors, our volunteers, those who stepped up to teach workshops or host events, our attendees who stayed late to help us pack up chairs without being asked, to anyone who just showed up and put their behind in a seat - we appreciate you. ALL OF YOU. Red Deer Pride Week absolutely would NOT have happened without your help. This week was all about community and SO MANY OF YOU stepped up. (We wish we could tag all of you!!)

While this year was far from perfect (we have already started making notes for improvements next year), we think it was a big step in the right direction and have loved watching so many folks come out and take part in these events.

We know once a year is not enough to keep us all connected - so stay tuned. Our goal is to continue to keep the community engaged and excited about experiences we can share, and places we can gather together and experience joy - maybe even learn a thing or two.

For now, it’s time for a bit of rest and reflection. We hope you enjoyed this week as much as we have - our collective cup is overflowing!

Come on down to Bella Ciao's in your best PJs for a DIY cereal bar and cartoon party! Let's start Saturday off right with some serious nostalgia and SUGAR! Big thanks to Costco for providing cereal and milk!

Fatal Fantasy Photography will also be continuing her Pride Portraits series!

Breathing Room Yoga and Psycle will be hosting a Pride Ride Spin Class at 2:15 - 2:45. Stay afterward for some delicious snacks and socializing! Link to register is in our LinkTree!
