What an amazing closing of our first show!!

Thank you to all the awesome artists, to Susan and Jordan @cushion_works_and_friends, and all of you who showed up!!

With the closing of CCA, we were able to host 22 students, alums, and grad students which was such a gift and we couldn’t have asked for a better space and show🫶🫶

Art and community is infinite and we look forward to hosting more shows through out the bay and maybe elsewhere… hehe

The end is near!! Join us on August 1st from 3 - 6 pm for a guided walkthrough of the show led by the curators and artists. This exhibition gathers works that embrace the nonsensical, the funny, the tragically stupid, gestures that refuse order and legibility. Absurdity emerges as a survival mechanism; it is the lens through which we tether parts of our reality that feel incomprehensible, unseeable. Through exaggeration, misplacement, and humor, absurdity disrupts rational systems that demand coherence.

Our artists cope and disrupt through absurdity as resistance, and Heavy Batter, allowing absurdity to surface as both form and method, pushes against regimes of sense-making that sustain exclusion and control.

Bring your bibs and competitive spirit for a pie-eating contest as a final farewell to this amazing CCA-fueled exhibition.

Hello! We are Lola, Saiya, and Milli (Red Dog Jar Studio) a group of three artist who want to share art with our community!
Get to know us better below :)

Lola Reed is an oil painter based in San Francisco. Her practice emerges from an insistence on the body, rendering flesh with a softness that borders on devotional. As a collector of images, she creates a visual language that slips between anatomy and allegory. Sorting through absurd fragments of media to sanctify and immortalize fleeting images of print ephemera and digital landscape. In her paintings, the interior is made exterior, acknowledging the weight and warmth of living forms, and reconsidering the embodied realities that tether us to the world. It is a recognition that the body is both familiar and estranged, a vessel shaped by uncontrolled forces.

Saiya is a multidisciplinary sculpture artist based in San Francisco. She works intuitively across a broad range of materials such as metal work, textiles, wax, digital media, and anything else a piece calls for. Her practice acts as a portal, a place where she can transmute a given emotion into something new.This becomes living prayer that offers renewal. She explores the boundaries between the ordinary, the traumatic, the spiritual, psychological and embodied expansion that a piece can create. She is drawn to liminality: the state of being neither here nor there, the transitional space between modes of existence, finding expansion in the “in-between”

Millicent is an interdisciplinary artist that focuses on craft with the hands. They work primarily in ceramics to hand build sculptures that explores the human identity, the Filipino, the American, and the queer reality. They’re inspired by Filipino mythologies, storytelling, and the human experience. Millicent’s work centers bodies of color and queerness, as something that is explored as the endurer/observer. They look to their own body, of oral and short stories, and sacred animals to represent communities that feel hybrid-human and of other-worldly creatures. This comes from Millicent’s background as a Filipinx-American, brought up in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the Philippines. by @reddogjarstudios

What if you were walking in the mission and suddenly you see a big door and you walk upstairs and what do you see…HEAVY BATTER??
Just like the batter of this cake maybe.. or not..
