Ahead of you lies a wilderness unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. A frozen lake, covered by a thick blanket of ice and snow, stretches towards the horizon, while the familiar sound of waves lapping against the shore lies dormant, waiting for the warmth of spring to return. Above, snow-covered mountains, streaked with dark bands of rock, dominate the skyline, guarding the vast glacier hidden beyond.

Many people would say it’s impossible for someone with a disability to access a place like this. But with the right equipment and the right support, it becomes a playground waiting to be explored.

Where a wheelchair, prosthetic, or mobility aid reaches its limits, a sit-ski, dog sled, or snowmobile can carry you further than you ever imagined. The satisfying crunch of snow beneath your skis. The golden light of the Arctic sun reflecting from snow-covered peaks. The unmistakable feeling of leaving the familiar world behind as you glide across a frozen wilderness.

If this is the kind of adventure that excites you, then you’re exactly the person we’re looking for.

In February 2027, we’re partnering with the incredible team at Pole to Pole to deliver an unforgettable adaptive winter expedition in the heart of Swedish Lapland. Together, we’ll learn the skills needed to travel through one of the world’s most spectacular winter landscapes and discover what’s possible when barriers are replaced with opportunity.

Adventure doesn’t care how you move. It only asks that you begin.

🚲This year we are delivering two bike adventures - the first a record-breaking journey across Snowdonia known as the ‘Traws-Eryri’, and the second an expedition along the Danube River from Passau in Bavaria to Vienna, Austria with the Foundation’s first five beneficiaries. We’re working with our partners from @adaptiv.mobility and @bowheadcorp to bring cutting-edge adaptive bikes to our beneficiaries. We’ve got big plans for bike adventures in the coming years, and can’t wait to share these 🙏

What if the greatest freedom isn’t found on land... but on the water?

For many people living with a disability, so much of daily life is defined by the equipment we rely on. Wheelchairs, prosthetics, crutches, or other mobility aids become an essential part of how we move through the world.

But on the water, something changes. Step into a kayak, canoe, or packraft, and those things are left behind. Suddenly, everyone is travelling in the same way, sharing the same journey, facing the same wind, waves, and wilderness. Disabilities become less visible, and what stands out instead is teamwork, adventure, resilience, and the simple joy of exploring together.

Kayaking is one of the most empowering forms of adaptive adventure we’ve experienced. It offers freedom, independence, and the chance to access places that simply can’t be reached by road. Whether it’s paddling across a quiet lake, following a winding river, or journeying through the towering fjords of Norway, every stroke is a reminder that adventure belongs to everyone.

At the Redefining Impossible Foundation, we’re building a series of adaptive kayaking expeditions for 2027, including what promises to be one of our most spectacular adventures yet: an expedition through the breathtaking fjords of Norway.

I was recently asked where the idea for the Redefining Impossible Foundation came from…

In truth, it began at the very edge of possible. Facing extreme adversity in Antarctica, every push of my sit-ski forced me to reflect on what had brought me there.

It wasn’t for a World Record. It wasn’t for more followers. It was the hope of empowering every person facing life-changing injury or trauma. To show them that there was hope, that life could still hold possibility, and that the impossible might not be as impossible as it first seemed.

As we continued our slow, determined push towards the Pole, I realised there was no greater purpose than helping others.

And that’s where the seed of the Redefining Impossible Foundation was born. Purpose through Adversity

A huge thank you to the @spinal_injuries for welcoming the Redefining Impossible Foundation to this year’s Rebuilding Lives Conference.

It was a privilege to be part of an event bringing together so many people and organisations committed to improving outcomes for individuals living with Spinal Cord Injury - and great to share the day with fellow Adaptive Adventurer Dr Niall McCann.

At the Foundation, we believe passionately in the role that adventure plays in rebuilding lives. Working alongside organisations like the SIA, we can help open more doors to adventure, build greater awareness of what is possible, and ensure more people living with SCI have access to experiences that rebuild confidence, connection and a sense of possibility.

The Redefining Impossible Foundation has big plans for delivering life-changing adventure experiences in 2027 and beyond — and we’re looking for volunteers to help make them possible.

We believe that we can only challenge ‘impossible’ together. That’s why we’re looking for people with a passion for adventure and inclusivity, and who want to use their skills, experience and enthusiasm to support others.

With future adventures ranging from kayaking and skiing to handcycling and multi-day expeditions, we’re particularly keen to hear from people with relevant outdoor qualifications and experience — but you don’t need to be an outdoor professional to get involved. There are many different ways to support our team and the beneficiaries we work with.

This is your chance to help make someone’s ‘impossible’ possible — and to become part of an incredible community united by a passion for adventure.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿Starting as we mean to go on - pushing boundaries and breaking barriers. Earlier this summer, the Redefining Impossible team - featuring Darren (Spinal Cord Injury) and Jack (Visual Impairment) successfully completed the 200km ‘Traws-Eryri’ expedition across Snowdonia to become the first hand cycle and tandem users to do so. Over the course of three days, the team tackled tough off-road conditions and significant elevation. The team also managed to raise £5,000 to support future beneficiaries of the Foundation.

❄️APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN - the Redefining Impossible Foundation is looking for individuals who have experienced life-changing injury/trauma to join us for an adaptive polar adventure in Northern Sweden in February 2027.

Over several days, beneficiaries will learn new skills, experience the Arctic environment, and take on challenges that might once have felt out of reach - all alongside a group of like-minded people.

And the best part? Thanks to the support of some incredible brands, the Foundation covers the cost of the adventure (beneficiaries are only responsible for the cost of their flights to/from Sweden).

In the immediate aftermath of the climbing accident which left me permanently paralysed from the chest down, I feared that I’d lost a sense of belonging - of connection to adventure and wilderness. Society seemed to reinforce just how ‘impossible’ some things would be to access…

But, fast forward to today, I’m beyond excited to be part of the Redefining Impossible Foundation’s mission to challenge perception, and to prove that even the world’s toughest environments can be a place of belonging for those living with disability.
