POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We are back at HSBC for another intimate evening of short films by Michelle Williams Gamaker (@m.williams.gamaker), a well-decorated filmmaker and friend of REDEYE. Here is what we’re showing:

The Bang Straws (2021) Slide 2-5
An aesthetically invigorating Fictional Activism film reworking the casting process of Sidney Franklin’s The Good Earth (1937), a film notorious for a white actor’s racist portrayal of a Chinese character.

Thieves (2023) Slide 6-9
A fantasy adventure reimagining the marginalised characters in the 1924 and 1940s versions of The Thief of Bagdad as claiming leading roles. In this version, Chinese-American actor Anna May Wong and Indian-born American actor Sabu unite as fictional allies to avenge racial discrimination in the film industry.

Only 20 spaces. RSVP only - see flyer for details! by @redeyescreening

Worldly, witty, and often sexy. Schickele’s vision is a rare capture of the textures of an immigrant experience. Bushman is a work of extraordinary depth, power and beauty that subverts cinematic form and convention.

A great space does more than give you somewhere to work. It gives ideas room to grow, conversations room to unfold and people a reason to connect.

For our latest Member Spotlight, we spoke with @fikayomigodisgreat about creativity, collaboration and why the right environment can shape the way we think. Surrounded by inspiring spaces and like-minded people, ideas have a way of taking shape and some of the best opportunities begin with a conversation you never planned to have.

Because sometimes the most valuable thing you leave with isn't what's on your to-do list — it's a new perspective.

Some of the most beautiful moments can’t be planned, by keeping an open mind Akinola Davis Jr allowed himself to recognize a gem when it appeared in front of him, giving his art the space to evolve.

The path is formed by walking. So do the thing, and watch the rest fall into place.

@akinoladaviesjr and @nigelruwende, revisit the early works that trace the roots of one of London’s most distinctive voices in film. by @redeyescreening

This beautiful conversation with @akinoladaviesjr and @nigelruwende is full of gems for anyone on their creative journey. Here are a couple for your notes: Be intentional, don’t be afraid to be defiant - you might just make something that impacts those lucky enough to see it.

Since the huge success of Akinola’s first feature film we felt it important to show some of his earlier works, calling back to memory the key moments that shaped London’s most beloved filmmaker. by @redeyescreening

Before Akinola Davies Jr’s BAFTA-winning debut feature ‘My Father’s Shadow’ came powerfully nostalgic stories of culture, memory, and the quieter detail of life.
This event was a celebration of those earlier works, Unity of Strength, Lizard and Marks of Worship.
