Award-winning theatre company exploring human ugliness through new writing. We create art that exists in the grey areas
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Dear Eliza is on at @53twotheatre a week today! Here are just a handful of review highlights from it's 2024 tour ⭐

The show is coming back for one night only, so we'd recommend you book your tickets quickly from the 53Two website. Link is in our bio ⭐

KEY INFO:

Date: 13th September
Time: 19:30
Tickets: £10, with PWYC also available

ABOUT THE SHOW:

"Red Line Theatre’s award-winning play is returning to Manchester, coming to the iconic 53Two arches for one night only! Dear Eliza is a powerful investigation of friendship under the strain of mental illness, declared “fringe theatre at its best” (British Theatre Guide). In a media culture that either villainises or victimises the mentally ill, Dear Eliza navigates the grey area with guts and defiance. Playful, bold, cynical, darkly funny, and admirably candid, this one-woman play is very much about confronting unexpressed emotions within relationships and saying out loud what you’d rather keep in your head…

Written and performed by “powerhouse” Barbara Diesel and directed by “fringe legend” Helen Parry, Dear Eliza was awarded “Best Play” at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in 2024, as well as being shortlisted for “Best Newcomer” in 2023 and making the top 40 out of 800 for the Brighton Fringe “Audience Choice Award” in 2024. Described as “captivating from start to finish” (A Youngish Perspective, 4.5 star) and a “must watch” (Better Than Words, 5 stars), this show promises to make you laugh, then cry, and then laugh again.

Find out more about the show via https://redlinetheatre.co.uk/dear-eliza

Content warnings include discussion of mental illness and suicide, as well as strong language. Recommended 16+."

…and breathe. What a rollercoaster for the first sharing of ‘In Good Conscience’ at @kingssalford last week. And reviews are in! Thank you to @ayoungishperspective @theatremuseuk canalstreet all quoted here.

Thanks also to @shayster57 for these fab photos; we can hardly choose our favourites! Lots of love❤️

Another thanks to The Kings Arms and @gmfringe for having us and for another brilliant festival! We love you guys.👊

And finally to @linnae.yllane who we couldn’t have been more grateful for meeting on this project. A brilliant, lovely genius, Linnae shaped our piece in such a slick manner in such a short timeframe. Godsend❤️

We’re super chuffed with the feedback we’ve had on this show, especially as it’s the first WIP version. If you have any thoughts that you haven’t got round to sharing, please do so! We don’t yet know what’s next for this story, but it’s been an absolute thrill getting it on its feet from nothing in a month, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came to watch.

Whatever happens, we’ll be back soon with something so WATCH THIS SPACE! In the meantime, there are still some more brilliant pieces on for the rest of @gmfringe so get booking and you might bump into Oli who’s partway through his marathon of viewings!

In solidarity,
Oli & Barbara ✌️ ☮️

Quotes read:

“Barbara Diesel and Oli Wyatt create a production that is both engaging and thought-provoking. It raises important questions and offers genuine emotional connection, all while remaining grounded in two convincing and passionate performances. 4/5” - A Youngish Perspective

“It is relevant, and edgy, and does not hold back in its questioning of authority[…]This is a hard-hitting play, and it is well written, and topical.” - Theatre Muse UK

“The play is a great insight into how protest marches are organised, and the consequences of being in them, especially when peaceful protest turns into direct action against people and property, and it certainly took us out of our comfort zone[…]It’s all very well done.” - Canal Street taken in The Kings Arms by @redlinetheatre

LOST IN CYBERSPACE
By Millie Shaw

We were lucky to have Millie display 4 of her gorgeous paintings at JOY! last month. Lost in Cyberspace (above) is one of Millie's larger paintings, which we displayed on stage as our performers shared their work. Millie even sold several prints of her work at the event, kindly donating 30% of her earnings to our fundraiser for @calmzone ❤️

About Lost in Cyberspace, Millie writes:

"Through this painting, I wanted to combine videogames and reality. Whilst playing videogames, you are in reality, and are sat in front of a screen. However, through the videogame you are taken away from reality and placed in a fantasy storyline, and therefore distracted from the world and its problems. I wanted to utilise the canvas to capture this emotion of being in reality physically yet being in a videogame mentally.

All of the elements included are from reality, however they have been altered to depict a fantasy-like scene inspired by the game “Cyberpunk 2077”. This method is similar to how videogames take elements of reality, and alter them into a new world for the player to escape in." by @redlinetheatre

ALL THE BEAUTIFUL THINGS THAT HAVEN'T HAPPENED YET
Woven by @lillyfrancesbeards

'All the beautiful things that haven’t happened yet' is a gorgeous woven piece made of dead stock cotton and twine. Fibre artist Lilly created the piece especially for JOY!, our variety scratch event that took place last month to mark World Suicide Prevention Day and raise money for @calmzone

Lilly writes:

“This handwoven tapestry celebrates the joy that is yet to come, but always there to look forward to.

No matter how lost or hopeless we may feel, there will always be a small patch of something - a colour, texture, person, conversation, piece of art - that fills us with hope and makes us feel more optimistic about the world we live in.

We may not be able to predict how or when that patch of joy will show up, but we know it always will - and when woven into our life, it will, in its own small way, change the rest of who we are forever"

We recommend following Lilly on Instagram to keep up to date with all of her wonderful work. Thank you Lilly! 💖 by @redlinetheatre

Our night of JOY! ✨💖🥳

What an INCREDIBLE night we had on Tuesday. Our fundraising scratch event, JOY!, saw local creatives take to the stage and share a piece of art dedicated to what brings them joy. We had comedy, poetry, music, TedTalks, and even a couple of games of Kahoot... Not to mention the fantastic visual artwork created by artists Millie Shaw and Lilly Beards.

Altogether, we've raised around £200 for @calmzone, an amazing suicide prevention charity that we are so proud to support.

Thank you to the wonderful @eagleinn for allowing us to use their space free of charge to raise as much as we could. And a huge thank you to everyone who took part, who created and shared work, and who made the evening so special and genuinely delightful. We had a HOOT.

More photos to come soon 💖✨🥳 by @redlinetheatre

Last week, we took Dear Eliza to the arches at @53twotheatre ✨

After an uphill struggle with ticket sales, the Manchester theatre community really showed up for us - we jumped up from 16 tickets to 50 and had one of our "best" performances yet, apparently! Thank you to our wonderful audience for joining us for a truly special one ❤️

We are working very hard behind the scenes on our @aceagrams funded educational project, bringing Dear Eliza and specialist workshops into educational settings. We have our first trial session in a few weeks. Wish us luck! ✨ by @redlinetheatre
