Red Line Theatre’s award-winning debut play is returning to Manchester, coming to the iconic 53Two arches for one night only! Dear Eliza is a powerful investigation of friendship under the strain of mental illness, declared “fringe theatre at its best” by British Theatre Guide. In a media culture that either villainises or victimises the mentally ill, Dear Eliza navigates the grey area with guts and defiance. Playful, bold, cynical, darkly funny, and admirably candid, this one-woman play is very much about confronting unexpressed emotions within relationships and saying out loud what you’d rather keep in your head...

Written and performed by “powerhouse” Barbara Diesel and directed by “fringe legend” Helen Parry, Dear Eliza was awarded “Best Play” at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in 2024, as well as being shortlisted for “Best Newcomer” in 2023 and making the top 40 out of 800 for the Brighton Fringe “Audience Choice Award” in 2024. Described as “captivating from start to finish” (A Youngish Perspective, 4.5 stars) and a “must watch” (Better Than Words, 5 stars), this show promises to make you laugh, then cry, and then laugh again.

Content warnings include discussion of mental illness and suicide, as well as strong language. Recommended 16+.

The North.

A once thriving port-town, now surviving in the scraps of yesterday’s industry.

Maria lives there. In the digital 21st Century, how does a pregnant 18-year old find connection, trust and hope?

A UK premiere from Manchester writer Simon Stephens takes a long look at social neglect; birth, death and love.

Simon Stephens is one of today’s most important dramatists famous for the social precision and empathy he uses to paint his characters.

A raucous new musical comedy telling tales of folk intrigue, ‘wyrd’ happenings and inebriated villagers.

It’s been raining all summer. But that’s not going to stop the residents of Hopley Drew gathering in The Barleycorn Inn for their annual Harvest show and one final knees up before the pub closes its doors for good. As the villagers show off their soggy crops, share songs and tales of local lore, and wait with baited breath for the results of the raffle, a wild storm rages. Some say it’s just typical British weather, but others say it’s something much more sinister... Can this drenched and disenchanted community band together to overcome whatever lurks outside?

Lived Experience 2026.

Big love and blessings to @redlinetheatre, bb.diesel and the Lived Experience 2026 hunnies. Thank you for letting me come and play.

Much love and thanks to Emily Browning for writing the piece.

Thank you also to our director and self proclaimed (and rightly so) King Of The Rats @roisin.cook_ . You’ve expertly led 3 Queers into playing heterosexuals. ‘‘Tis no easy feat.

And of course to the aforementioned queers. @connor_asprey and @niabow__ . Here’s to you divas.
