May 5 is Cartoonist Appreciation Day! It’s also my birthday. ✨ I spent the weekend doing what I love with people I love, couldn’t ask for more!
I started this illustration about a month ago and decided aside. My little cousins were going through my sketchbook over Easter and they encouraged me to finish it. I really like how this turned out, it’s super cute. #art #oc #originalartwork #birthday by @ree_emily

My first ever hardcover book is here! 🎄
Advent Calendar has arrived and shipped orders has begun! Kickstarter backers, keep an eye out for a campaign update this week. 🩷 by @ree_emily

Tabbi? Tabbi! Her hair clips are definitely not actually knives. 🔪 ✨ she’s definitely good at coping with the horrors of the past. by @ree_emily

Man, I love Halloween. 🎃

I discovered Bleach right before 7th grade, on a family trip to Washington DC. I bought the first two volumes at the Borders in Union Station, and whenever I go back to DC, I always make a pilgrimage to the spot where the bookstore once stood. Bleach is the thing I’m always chasing, the guiding text deep in my soul, whether I realize it or not. I’ve spent 2 decades telling people how good the story is, the art, the characters, and the style and I’m glad to see everyone appreciating it as the last episode of the anime airs.
Thank you Kubo. I hope you’re enjoying the hype. by @ree_emily

Uniforms and street clothes. ✨ I was working on these at the beginning of the month, before I got focused on Halloween costumes. by @ree_emily

More Fever Dreamers Fall! 🍁
Cecilia’s birthday is in late October, so she has a costume party every year. This year, it’s at a sushi restaurant and, true to her shapeshifting nature, her costumes transforms. Her mom and grandma don’t get it, but it’s HER birthday.
I based the salmon costume off of a few fish costumes on Etsy/Pinterest. The sushi dress is based on the iconic iCarly sushi dress. by @ree_emily

Tabbi down the rabbit hole 🐰
I set out to accomplish two things with this piece: draw a Halloween costume for Tabbi and practice coloring techniques.
I drew a couple variations on this piece and tried to redesign the classic Alice dress. I realized that if the character’s hair doesn’t immediately read as “Alice,” especially it’s not blonde, innovative Alice dress designs don’t support the rest of the design. So I went with a more iconic look for the dress, so the costume would be recognizable. Tabbi would 100% set off to make something more innovative. Maybe it’s a hand-me-down costume or a spirit halloween costume that she spiffed up?
For Fever Dreamers, I’m thinking about forgoing shading (rendering, as the kids call it) and relying on line and color instead. We’ll see! by @ree_emily

The boys 🍂👻
More Fever Dreamers Fall. Thinking of forgoing rendering (or shading, as the olds call it) and lean more heavily on line. We’ll see! by @ree_emily

🎉I gave a talk to the AIGA students at Russell Sage college this week! I spoke about my journey as an artist and how I’ve used my fine arts background to be a weirdo comic artist museum programs person. ❤️
The art and design students at Russell Sage are so sweet, skilled, and professional! Couldn’t have asked for a better crowd. Thank you for inviting me to your lovely campus. ❤️ by @ree_emily
