This anemone is eating good!
In the video you’ll see an aiptasia anemone, in 20 mls of seawater with 240 rotifers per mL. After an hour in solution, the rotifer density was counted again at 182 per mL. Meaning this anemone did not stop eating ! You can tell by the increased size and reactivity to prey! Corals are often underrepresented in trophic transfer studies! This is preliminary, control groups and replication will be done as part of a broader study🪸

First clutch hatched. Of the ~160 eggs spawned in my reef tank, I only captured 21 fry- pretty sad. There was further mortality in transport to the lab (overnight without rotifers, the fry were likely hungry).

However we have strong individuals in the lab that are alive and are feasting on rotifers all day long.

I am confident my clownfish will spawn again, this time on a removable tile. Future clutches will not suffer the same fate.

Well, back in May we started with 1 tank and 1 species of coral... now, four months later, 2 tanks and at least 4-5 different species! Bit by bit - we're building a coral research facility here!

Big plans are on the horizon - just need to (fingers crossed!) figure out how to make it all happen!

The Goniopora frags will open up soon!

POV: you’re a marine scientist who brings the work home 🪸🔬

First real tour of the space: reef system, water preparation, microscopy, test kits, marine specimens, photography and environmental monitoring all packed into one small room.

It’s equipment dense. Every inch has a purpose. What started as a reef tank has slowly turned into a compact marine biology workspace

Still constantly refining it.
