2023 Recap: Shoulder Injury edition “With every broken bone, I swear I lived” - never related to a line more. 😂 In a sling, I still managed to accomplish so many things including my ranging exercises, housework, spending quality time with the fam, content creation and even doing a presentation to my CEO amidst my Hospitalisation Leave. 2023 was tough but I’ve grown and learnt a lot. I’m proud of myself for overcoming all the traumatic things (dislocation, fluoroscopy, MRI etc) leading up to the shoulder surgery that I was terrified of, and surviving the most difficult days. Thankful to my hubby for always being my rock (and extra arm when I was incapacitated). Here’s to a better and stronger 2024! 💪 By the way, the last frame shows how high I can lift my arm to now (supported)! Prior to my surgery (post-injury), this was not possible at all as I could only lift my arm to about 70 degrees. So many emotions for the past week which marked exactly one year since my shoulder surgery to repair my torn rotator cuff and labrum, and also marked my final physio session. It’s been quite a long journey from the shoulder dislocation in Jun 2023 to my reviews / MRI with a Govt hospital, then getting a second opinion and finally doing the op in Oct 2023. Looking back I am so proud of what I have achieved. For never letting the tough days get to me, and for never giving up. I actually achieved 180 deg supine forward elevation by 12 weeks post-op but it was only at 6 months post-op that I had enough strength to do that unassisted when standing (as seen in reel). Not everyone regains 100% of their range and I am exceedingly thankful for how things worked out. Ever grateful to my surgeon Dr Andy Wee of @pinnacleorthogroup for his professionalism and excellent work, and my physiotherapist for his exceptional care and guidance - without both of whom I would never have been able to recover and restore my quality of life. Tough times don’t last; tough people do. I can finally put a close to my shoulder chapter. Mini Reno Diaries: from Chaos to Cosy! Didn’t wanna move house after staying here for a decade so we decided to do a bit of renovation last year to meet our current needs (i.e. needed a whole lot more cupboard space). We renovated our 2 toilets in phases, upgraded the shoe cabinet to a huge cupboard at the doorway, added more full height cupboards to the master bedroom and kid’s room, plus refreshed our kitchen (more storage underneath my colonial-style window, changed countertops, stove and sink). Gosh it was super painful and inconvenient to live in while the renovation was going on. The cleaning up was insane esp when the contractor was cutting through the concrete support for the sink. 😔 I was so relieved when the reno was finally over. I am definitely not one of those people who find moving house or reno fun. And erm, this is an 8 months overdue post but I thought about how committed I was to wearing that white dress for all the shots and decided I’d better not let my effort go to waste. Haha! And guess what, the idea of reno first started all because I wanted to get a pink water dispenser (see last frame). Not sure about my squash serve but I can definitely ✨serve✨ on the court 🤪 Second time ever holding a squash racket, in case my technique and outfit (complete with scrunchie 🎀 and earrings) didn’t already make that obvious! My physio @chris.physiosg suggested I “pick up a racket sport” for my post-op shoulder / “be more active”… so far, the only thing I’ve been consistently picking up is the ball 🤡 Nevertheless, this non-athletic girly girl will persist — for fitness (chasing after the ball counts as cardio, right?), family bonding, and encouraging my son Chase to keep on playing squash (he’s on his 12th lesson with @singapore.squash )! #servinglooks #squashtime #squashcourt #sgmum #serveandslay
