This past summer I hosted my own home café with a few friends and wrote about it for @cbclife - the concept was inspired by my favs @drinksaturdaycafe in Montreal!

I wanted to include food representing the season and local flavours, so I made basil + lemon magdelenas, haskap and dark chocolate cookies and red currant bread pudding. My friend @harus_cuisine brought a beautiful blueberry and rosemary loaf while the wild blueberry pie I sourced from the lovely @_sonias.sweets ✨

Secretly I’ve always wanted to open a café, so this was a fun way to do that in the spirit of. I even got a small design made by @alanakinseyart to stamp onto bags! ☕️

Fun experience overall and happy it was all documented unbeknownst to me 😅

This new restaurant exceeded my expectations!

Everything about this space felt inviting and the dishes were phenomenal — especially the crispy shrimp 🫦

So…I have a website now?!

For almost a decade, I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a website to house all the recipes I’ve developed over the years. But as most of you know, I am not computer-savvy lol.

When I started working with Food Network Canada, I learned so much about digital editing,  and the idea of creating a site finally felt possible. Having never worked in the editorial space before, I felt really lucky to have shared my passion for food with a whole new audience. And when that chapter ended, I knew I was ready to dive into this long-awaited project of mine.

Introducing Fifty First Tastes!! 🥹

Last year I connected with the talented @pizzapiekindaguy and together we started cooking up the recipe for my first website. With recipe.site’s creator-friendly platform, publishing high-quality recipe-focused content became a breeze. Think NYT Cooking, Food52 level professional — amazing, right?

Creators have the ability to completely customize their website to fit their personal aesthetic. You can even monetize your site through their evolving subscription tool and collections dashboard.

Without the team at Recipe.site, I’m not sure when I would have reached this goal of mine — but I’m glad I finally did.

If you’re a new or seasoned food creator and looking to launch your own website - send me a DM and
I can show you how to get started today. ✨

French Onion Mashed Potatoes! 🥔

@dylanmakes cooks up this savoury mashup of two classic comfort dishes — perfect for the colder months. This dish is so warm and comforting it almost makes us forget that it’ll be -20 some days. ❄️

This recipe uses locally grown sweet yellow onions from Bowman’s Organic Produce with Russet Potatoes from Kawartha Organics. You can really taste the difference from fresh and local vs store bought, and when you’re making something as flavourful as this - every bite counts.

Gourd-geous girl season is here ✨

Instead of smashing pumpkins, make this delicious fall-inspired spaghetti squash panzanella salad 🥗 Packed with plant power, this salad is rich in nutritious vitamins. I did some rearranging of ingredients 🤭 added butter beans for protein, toasted sourdough croutons using @mabelsbakery bread, kalettes, shallots, heirloom tomatoes and goat feta from @cross_wind_farm. If there’s anything you’re going to make this season, let it be this gourd-geous salad.

Did I mention it’s gourd-geous?

Pro tip: to avoid any kitchen mishaps, microwave your squash for 1-2 minutes to soften the outer layer. It’ll make it way to easier to cut — TRUST ME.

Lilac and Black Tea Loaf 🪻🍵

I patiently wait every year for spring to come around so I can make this tea loaf with fresh lilacs. If you know me well, you know I will always find a way to cook with flowers 😌 the black tea [eros] comes from @tealeavesco (not sponsored) and I honestly think the quality is the best.
