5 more accessible walks in South Wales.

A follow on from a post with more suggestions of pushchair & wheelchair accessible spaces in South Wales.
.
As mentioned in my previous post I currently have good mobility so it’s possible I may unintentionally get things wrong, please comment if I do.
.
5 more accessible walks to enjoy in South Wales.
.
1. RSPB Newport Wetland, Newport
Newport Wetlands has a few accessible routes including the 3mile main trail & 1 mile sculpture trail. Trails are wide & flat but can get muddy. There are accessible bird hides, toilets & parking. 3 mobility scooters are available for hire, booking advised. Service dogs allowed otherwise dogs not allowed on the reserve except for a permissive trail along the perimeter. Entrance free but parking is £5 for non-members.

2. St Fagans National Museum of History
The grounds are over 100 acres with woodland, gardens & historic buildings to explore & has clearly marked accessible paths to most areas. Free wheelchairs available on a first come first serve basis. There is accessible parking & toilets & a buggy service to help visitors get around. Admission is free, parking £7 but free for disabled badge holders. Dogs allowed on short leads on the grounds but not allowed inside the historic buildings, pushchairs due to space are not allowed inside all of the historic buildings.

3. Mon and Brec Canal towpath
The towpath is well maintained with sections particularly accessible for wheelchairs & pushchairs including Gilwern which has recently had pathway improvements & accessible picnic area installed. Talybont-on-Usk is smooth with wide paths & Brecon canal offers an all ability walking route.

4. Cardiff Bay Barrage
.
Cardiff Bay Barrage walk from the Bay to Penarth Marina is a flat tarmac level path suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bikes. There is accessible parking & toilets along the route and dogs are allowed.

5. Parc Bryn Bach, Blaenau Gwent
This Countrypark has fantastic accessible features with a wide flat path around the lake & sensory garden, accessible parking, toilets & play area equipment. Dogs are allowed. Free parking.

5 accessible walks in South Wales.
.
These walks are suitable for pushchairs & wheelchair users
.
Firstly I want to say I currently have good mobility so it’s possible I may unintentionally get things wrong, please comment if I do.
.
I’m a believer that the outdoors should be accessible to everyone. A few years ago I had major reconstructive knee surgery which left me with limited mobility for an extended time - that experience gave me a small insight into how inaccessible the world can be at times, often simply down to bad planning & design.
.
There’s a lot more than just 5 walks & I’m going to share more soon
.
1. Forest Farm Nature Reserve, Cardiff.
The majority of the reserve is accessible for pushchairs & wheelchairs with flat reasonably surfaced paths including the bird hides. The paths can get muddy after rain. There’s free parking, it’s dog friendly & there is a map of the accessible routes on Friends of Forest Farm website.

2. Lisvane & Llanishen Reservoir, Cardiff.
The circular walk around the Res is accessible & open all year round & is flat & wide although can get muddy in rain. There is disabled parking, the visitor centre & cafe is accessible & there are accessible toilets on both the ground & first floor. Open daily 9-4pm in Autumn/Winter. Parking charges apply & not dog friendly.
.
3. Cosmeston Lake Country Park, Penarth
The circular route around the lake is wheelchair & pushchair friendly with wide flat paths with a mixture of tarmac, wooden boardwalks & hard gravel. There’s an accessible toilet & disabled parking bays. Dog friendly. Parking charges apply
.
4. Parc Cefn Onn, Cardiff
A lovely park that offers good accessibility for wheelchair & pushchair users with wide flat paths & an accessible wooden boardwalk. They also offer Countryside Mobility trampers to hire (best to book in advance). Free parking, disabled bays & an accessible toilet

5. Garwnant Visitor Centre, Merthyr Tydfil
Lovely accessible nature trail ( get map in the visitor centre). Both cafe & visitor centre is accessible, there are disabled parking bays, accessible Toliet & it’s dog friendly.
