After a shitty day, a beach shoot was a nice end…
☀️ 🌊

My fellow midlander @firstadekit travelled up from back home for an awesome shoot at the beach. Can’t wait to see them finished images as the natural light was banging!

Five years ago, I never could have imagined where life would take me.

In the last five years, I’ve lost my three beautiful babies – Poppy, Duke and Darci. I got divorced, sold my house, moved away and started a brand-new job in a completely new part of the country.

Then life surprised me in the best ways too. I met my husband, we got married, adopted Winnie Woo, and bought our home together.

Along the way, we’ve made incredible memories but also experienced heartbreaking loss, saying goodbye to my dad, my nan and my grandad.

Five years has brought more change than I ever thought possible. It’s been messy, beautiful, painful and joyful all at once.

Life can change in ways you never expect. ❤️

The best images aren’t created by photographers alone.

They’re the result of talented people bringing different skills together to create something none of us could achieve individually.

A designer spends hours refining a garment. A stylist carefully selects pieces that tell a story. A hair artist shapes the look and mood of an image. Makeup artists, models and creative directors all bring their own expertise to the shoot.

The camera is simply where all of that work comes together.

That’s one of the reasons I enjoy creative shoots so much. They give talented people an opportunity to showcase their work, build stronger portfolios and create images that help is all attract future clients and elevate our positions.

If you’re a fashion designer, stylist or hair artist looking to create content that highlights your craft, I’d love to connect.

Whether you’re building a portfolio, launching a collection, promoting a salon or simply want to create something visually strong, there is always value in bringing creative people together.

Some of the best opportunities start with a simple conversation.

***ONE SPACE LEFT*** If the post last week wasn’t enough to convince you, then here’s some of the spaces we’ll be shooting in around the grounds of middleton hall and gardens. On last update from the venue there was just 2 spaces left for photographers to book onto. Many many thanks for those that jumped on the spaces in the very first week. I was not expecting that. I’ve done a couple of ‘test’ shoots around the location now with Tegan and Sarah to give you an idea of some of the images you will be able to create and I’ll hopefully share those with you next week but the venue gives so many possibilities for putting your creativity to work and I’m already looking forward to seeing what everyone creates. The shoot is an absolute steal to shoot somewhere like this behind closed doors for just £30 per photographer with all monies raised going straight back into the hall for their interpretation fundraiser. For the full model lineup see my previous pinned post. To book click the link in my bio via the venues website. (I feel like the narration of this has a Francis bourgeois feel, lol)

The cure for hiccups…..
Why is this not common knowledge. Just ask someone a question. There’s a downside though. You can’t ask someone to ask you a question when you’ve got hiccups. You know it’s coming and it’s no longer a surprise. Why does it work. Well it’s easier explained in the video, but basically it’s a diversion tactic. The same way as ‘shocking someone’ can cure someone’s hiccups. But asking a question works way better. All you need to do is make someone stop and think for a second. Something that makes their eyes move showing there’s a thought process going on and that’s when the hiccups will stop. Now of course someone with way more followers than me will jump on this and ride the wave, but remember where you heard it first and put it into action and to be honest please do tell the world. Let’s cure those hiccups and stop people going to A&E for such stupid things.

Just walked through the door after an 8 hour shoot and a 2 hour drive home, not even dropped the camera bag down, got shoes off, or even had a cup of tea.

There’s always one…..

“Hey, can you send my pictures from today?” 😂

I know you feel this one.

People think it’s as simple as taking a picture on a phone, and sharing it. They don’t see the hours of backing up cards, culling, retouching, exporting, uploading, replying to emails, and trying to keep your eyes open long enough to do it all the other admin properly while side hustling (the later is my problem and it’s my job to ensure I can meet deadlines, day job or no day job)

We love what we do… but sometimes I swear people think the photos teleport straight from the camera to Instagram 😭

Now I know some of you are stellar at posting images super quick after an event, but that’s just not me, culling and post processing is as much a part of the process as the shoot is and I only want the absolute best of the best getting out in the wild. (This is where you make a shady comment in your head and keep it there 😆😉)

Tell me about some of your stories from the trenches or even discuss your post processing workflow that allows you to speedily post images quicker than I can blink.

Your gear. No one gives a shit as long the pictures look good.

Your camera settings. I could stand in the same position less than 5 minutes later but if the light has changed those settings aren’t going to work anymore.

Getting mad because they added a filter to your image when they shared it on instagram.

That you deliver 10 images as standard in your package, but always over deliver. Well done, you suck at upselling but excel at ensuring you work closer to minimum wage the more time you spend in post.

Never give up your RAW files. Why not? There’s a price for everything.

What’s something photographers overshare that you’re tired of seeing? Especially if it’s something I do. 🫣#PhotographerProblems

I don’t care about followers, likes, or trying to beat the algorithm.

But I do care about being visible and especially being in the same room as the people I want be with. Which gets increasingly difficult when the calendar is busy. After several years I’ve got better at knowing how much I can cope with before I burn out. Which is why there’s been less shooting this year, but it’s been far more intentional and personal. However with the warmer months coming it’s going to be difficult to resist the urge to keep going outside, so perhaps some networking might get back on the cards.

Haven’t posted a BTS (behind the scenes) for a while so here’s one from when it rained for weeks on end, just thought I’d remind you of that because why not, you can still take some pics and whip out the off camera flash.
