How I trained my middle split as a dancer👇🏼 PART 1!

• Always include abductor strength training - the outside of your hips & the muscles responsible for turnout 👆🏼here’s some suggestions, simple but EFFECTIVE 🔥

• A combination of stretching & strengthening the adductors - inside thigh muscles from different angles👆🏼 Double Attitudes & Middle Split Strengthener w. Band are my favs 👀

• ALWAYS finish with internal rotation. To improve hip opening we must equally focus on INTERNAL rotations as well as EXTERNAL rotation ✅

SAVE & TRY! 🤸🏻‍♀️

⚠️DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP in your flexibility routine if you want results!

Passive &/or static stretching alone will NOT unlock your flexibility potential. We have to actively work the muscles in combination with our static holds to strength & lengthen them effectively, achieving long term results, & often, far quicker! So if you’ve hit a flexibility ‘wall’, you just can’t go that bit further in a forward fold or splits for example, then this is how you improve your range safely.

Whilst holding stretches for a period of time (usually between 45secs - 2mins) does increase the flexibility in the muscles & is still part of a routine, it is EQUALLY important to awaken & strengthen the muscles whilst stretching. My favourite style that I found as some of the best results is PNF stretching.

I share loads of these key exercises, drills & stretches here @movementbygwendolen , that are inspired from my ballet training & dancing profession, that will help unlock & progress your flexibility potential. Make sure you’re following to not miss out 🤩 Let’s get flexi!!

One of my favourite things about these classes is seeing people realise they don’t need to be naturally flexible to start. 💛

Whether you’re a complete beginner, a dancer, an aerialist, a runner, or someone who simply wants to move more freely, there’s a place for you here.

My flexibility classes are designed to help you improve safely, build strength alongside flexibility, and work towards your own goals at your own pace. No pressure, no comparison, just a supportive group of lovely people encouraging each other along the way.

If you’ve been thinking about trying a flexibility class but weren’t sure if you’d be “good enough”, this is your sign. Everyone starts somewhere, and I’d love to help you begin your journey.

I created a FREE January workout & stretch calendar with short, feel-good movement you can actually stick to.

If you didn’t start on January 1st, you’re not behind 🤍 January doesn’t need to be intense to be effective.

✨ Short daily 5-18min sessions
✨ Mobility, stretching, lymphatic massage & ballet conditioning
✨ Follow-along YouTube videos already linked for you

You can start today. Or tomorrow. Or any day. This calendar is here to support you, not control you.

4 weeks to feeling more mobile, fluid and positive. This is for those who want to ease into the new year together through a little winter ritual of ballet-inspired movement routines.

Comment below and I’ll send it to you 💛

THE 3 IN 1 LEG STRETCH I love to include in my Leg Flexibility Classes!

Which is more of a stretch for you:
1️⃣ Internal spiral?
- targetes the outer thigh, ITB and glute

2️⃣ Parallel front?
- hamstrings and calf of the front leg

3️⃣ Outwards spiral?
- Inside thigh and sometimes hamstring of the front leg

🔗 in bio to join my studio stretch classes in Brighton 💕

Most people believe deeper front splits comes from pushing harder into the stretch… but progress is rarely about force. It’s about refinement.

In this session, you’ll see how small adjustments in hip and shoulder alignment completely change where the stretch is felt. With correct stacking, the hips open, the spine stays supported, and the splits begin to unlock naturally. We still have work to do with this, and every student is different with their own individual challenges. Please be kind.

👉🏼 This is the level of detail most beginners miss and it’s often why flexibility plateaus, no matter how much time is spent stretching.

If you’re ready to train with precision instead of pressure, this approach will help you build flexibility that feels safe, elegant, and lasting.

💬 When you practice your splits, do you think more about stretching or about alignment? I’d love to hear which feels harder for you
