The skill to go hands on in a self defense setting is crucial for keeping yourself safe against the real lived threat experienced in the “small woman vs big man” archetype of self defense

This requires technical skills but ALSO fast reactions, situational awareness, knowing when and how to call for support or run away, etc.

I have nothing to gain from spreading content like this as it’s outside of the realm of what I teach. (I teach combat sport martial arts with weight classes)

I just firmly believe martial arts are for everybody and think it’s the morally responsible thing to occasionally spread awareness of a trained woman’s increased chances at surviving a self defense altercation against a man compared to an untrained woman.

Combat sports are great but we shouldn’t look at “would it work in the ring” as an example of wether training is valuable. Tons of things that work in the ring aren’t useful in self defense, tons of things that work in self defense aren’t useful in combat sports. Theres absolutely a point where women should yell for help and attempt to kick a man in the groin #selfdefense #martialarts

Friend of mine told me that I reacted to Conor losing how a lot of people reacted to Michael Jackson dying. It’s not like I didn’t know it was a possibility. It’s the fact that this possibility being a reality could mean the end of an era #ufc #mma #conormcgregor #mcgregor #maxholloway

My perspective on fascia: it’s not magic, and often times you don’t need to know it exists to do the exercises they’re training. It’s just coordinating not only isolated muscle groups, but also how they work together, because they’re connected.

When you make that a meditation and you really fixate on how to move better, you will move better. And you’ll feel an interconnected kind athletic coordination between muscle groups. It’s cool. But the reality is, everyone has fascia.

So it’s not a matter of training fascia or not training fascia, it’s a matter of training good biomechanics vs bad biomechanics.

The truth is, disabled people get really skilled at using the body parts they have. Not saying that it’s not a disadvantage to not have certain body parts, but a LOT of disabled people could probably learn martial arts and do just fine. And a lot of able bodied people are actually extremely vulnerable.

Since Joshua van would NORMALLY lose to Francis, even if Francis ended up disabled tomorrow, I STILL think he would find a way #ufc #mma #selfdefense #disabilities #disabilityempowerment
