Tom Verlaine played with flash under the full moon in Joshua Tree on October 16, 2016 and i was there, i was so lucky to be there.

i also saw him play with Television five other times and i’ve never felt more alive when someone was playing guitar in the same space. it truly feels like a part of me has left when he left this earthly plane. RIP and thank you 🖤💔🤍

there are few creative gestures i will miss in this world more than Mimi Parker of @lowtheband ‘s voice, particularly when it completely merges with her husband Alan’s live in perfect simple melancholic joyous hymns to the divine grace we are lucky to experience while our souls and spirits get to play in these bodies. rest and soar in peace Mimi, my heart goes out to Alan and this truly special band that i was fortunate to see in SF in 2001, in Hudson in 2019 and in NYC at the end of March 2022 when i took this video of “Sunflower” the song that melted me the first time i saw them on the tour for Things We Lost In The Fire. each time they took me into the timeless beauty, seemingly effortlessly 🖤💔🤍

Taylor Hawkins knew the music of the bands he played in. a drummer like Dave Grohl knew great drummers. he was a good person too RIP

In 2000, i left New York City for California, and i gave my city life —an apartment, jobs, friends, social life— to my youngest brother Hesh, who was following in my footsteps. we went to the same private Jewish high school and college. Hesh was a great student under the same teachers who molded me. My brother did so much more with New York City than I ever could. Hesh helped everyone he ever met, AND he helped me too. I love him dearly and will miss him for the rest of my life. i love you my dear brother! 🤍❤️‍🩹🤍

In fall 2019, when Hesh was dealing with serious physical/emotional/mental health struggles, addictions and homelessness, I reached out to his old art friend Josh “Luvvy” Harris @joshluvvyharris . I had met Josh before Hesh did, as my friend Timothy “Speed” Levitch @speed.levitch knew Josh and took me to his Soho loft. Speed also was really close with Hesh. Josh told me Hesh was one of the best artists he had ever known, and he suggested that I put my brother to work, as that’s where he shined the most. I hired Hesh to be in the video for my song ‘Original’ which i wrote, performed and sang, to allow Hesh to demonstrate his masterful chalk art on the grand stage of the downtown city streets.

Hesh knew the streets of Soho like the back of his heart, and picked the perfect spot. I directed and our sister Este and my friend Ed Pankov @enterthexlad and i filmed for about four hours one afternoon/eve in late November 2019, three weeks before he nearly jumped off the same Brooklyn Bridge where he took his own life. A few miracles saved him a few times in the past three years, and our world lost a miracle of a human being, a brilliant flash of lightning, always changing, always present, illuminating the world around him.

Hesh was an ORIGINAL, and we wanted to capture a street scene in the neighborhood Hesh knew and loved so well. our message to everyone is we are all originals, reflecting the unity in each other’s hearts, as we lift each other up into the love that we all always are, were and will be.

my vintage slide viewer came in the mail. i have never looked at this sliver of my young self before. fashion in 1977 was to live for. the song is ‘blue ribbon’ from my yet be released music ✨🌙🚲💫
