Y’all, I know I’m not alone in getting more padded mail envelopes than I ever intended. And you know what? They’re a really good substitute for the gift bags I like to package art and gifts in, but don’t like actually buying.

It’s a very easy process to transform one to the other.

Here’s a quick video and some basic steps:
1. Collect your stash all in the same place. This feels simple, but it’s super important because one padded mailer floating around will make you angry, but 10 of them stashed together becomes a supply.

2. Take off your identifying information from label. Even though it will be on the inside, just feels better to remove (as thoroughly or minimally as you choose).

3. Cut the frayed open edges off, so there is a nice clean edge at the top where it opens.

4. Fold the bag in half lengthwise with the open edge at top.

5. While it’s folded, cut a long oval (or rectangle if you choose) that is about 1” tall (wide enough for fingers to fit into)…. And release!

…At its most basic, that’s it! Absolutely these could be painted or decorated in lots of ways, but for me it’s already a win of both form and function. The victory of resourcefulness from free supplies!! Wooot! 🙌🏽✂️

This one was an honor. Custom awards requested by the current Board of @upcyclepartsshop to honor the two founding directors who were there when we became an independent organization back in 2018. SWOOOOOOON.

They fulfilled their full terms!

It made me so happy to get this request and to make these two dynamos a quirky award of gratitude for all they contributed to the beautiful monster we all created together. 🤩 Ah, life. You’re pretty amazing.

Creativity & leadership in the backyard with my boy. That’s a pretty blissful day in my book. Hydro-dipping (spray painting water then dipping into it) is his specialty and sometimes we collaborate on custom award designs with it! This is just some work in progress but these completed awards will be ready to share in early November. Recognition for a first time award ceremony at a youth organization, we’re excited about the way this project is turning out 🙌🏽

We spent last week in the cutest cabin in the woods. At one point I hung from these trees in a hammock and laughed when it caught leaves that I watched fall from the tree tops. It feels delicious to stop and rest and to find a peaceful place to do that. However it looks for you, I wish a moment or a day or a week of rest.

Mine was the kind when the return is good too. Plus I missed my boy 😍. And even if I fell off my regular posting game, vacation was worth it!

Plastic parts & lids & paint markers 🎨 coming together at @urbansquashcleveland to design a student-led art piece. We’ll share what it becomes as it becomes! Meanwhile, I couldn’t get enough of watching kids doodle on the kinds of surfaces we see everyday but rarely think of as blank canvases. 🤩

Every year @nearwesttheatre reminds me of another reason to love my neighborhood. Even just the decorations are fun. But night time street theater on porches on a residential street? So SO impressive.

This caterpillar 🐛 phase of life I’m in is steeped in creativity and in community. I’m grateful to be held in those ways as I turn to goo. Haha, maybe not goo, but big transition for me does require lots of creating and love and community support for many emotions, many naps, many journal pages, and many conversations to build what’s next. Thanks for being in it with me. 🧡
