Tuesday night I doodled the bouquet of flowers on this page. I’m always drawing flowers, but this is kind of a style and color combination came together using watercolor pencils, so some sort of blended into unique orange pink.

Then Wednesday after a beautiful meal with wonderful friends, my friend’s husband gave me the lovely bouquet of the flowers on the right. Such similar colors and style, right?! The kind of magic that makes me feel happy with life’s glimmers and shimmers and surprises, and love, of course ✨✨✨🙏🏽 by @resourceassembly

The best part is celebrating people! and getting to be creative in the process! oh and that we’re reusing materials that had a first use too. That’s a lot of best parts, and it’s what keeps this side business super fun.
…. All that plus I’m now doing it with my 13-year-old who says things like “wow. that prototype looks like Oscar the Grouch made it” 😆

The red shapes popping out of each of these is expired filament from his 3-D printer. 🙂 Reuse is FUN. And partners like @borderlightcle make it awesome! 👏🏽 thanks for partnering with us and congratulations on another successful festival!

Y’all, I know I’m not alone in getting more padded mail envelopes than I ever intended. And you know what? They’re a really good substitute for the gift bags I like to package art and gifts in, but don’t like actually buying.

It’s a very easy process to transform one to the other.

Here’s a quick video and some basic steps:
1. Collect your stash all in the same place. This feels simple, but it’s super important because one padded mailer floating around will make you angry, but 10 of them stashed together becomes a supply.

2. Take off your identifying information from label. Even though it will be on the inside, just feels better to remove (as thoroughly or minimally as you choose).

3. Cut the frayed open edges off, so there is a nice clean edge at the top where it opens.

4. Fold the bag in half lengthwise with the open edge at top.

5. While it’s folded, cut a long oval (or rectangle if you choose) that is about 1” tall (wide enough for fingers to fit into)…. And release!

…At its most basic, that’s it! Absolutely these could be painted or decorated in lots of ways, but for me it’s already a win of both form and function. The victory of resourcefulness from free supplies!! Wooot! 🙌🏽✂️

I am good at work deadlines but not social ones. During this Thanksgiving break I was fully present with family and happy about that, but I forgot to share gratitude for all the ways I feel supported in this creative work, connected to a broader community both online and IRL, and committed to secondhand reuse as a way of championing people, places & possibilities. Thank you for being in it with me! (And for ordering earrings!) ….And all of ‘em have sterling silver (hypo-allergenic) ear wires and include clear rubber stoppers for the back (you’re welcome 🤗) Plus they’re lightweight and very durable. 💪🏽

Teamwork as far as the eye could see at Urban Squash Cleveland last night, where I get to be a visiting artist 🧡 Last month, we decorated plastic lids with paint markers with the goal of making an art project together.

Last night when I walked in with a few pieces of plastic signage, the decorated plastic lids, some wire, scissors, markers, and ribbon, I honestly wasn’t sure how it would all come together. But trust +!creative chaos + supportive adults, and the magic that happens when my inner kid gets to come out and play with creative kids …. 💥! In 2 hours with 2 groups, we made 2 rackets that we were all proud of!

Nothing recharges my soul like young innovative & creative minds. 🤩 We made something special together and I’m still smiling at how we came up with a plan led by them and each participant played a part. ✂️

One of my favorite kinds of reuse is using a thing in a different way…. and later returning it where it goes. Tonight I made a headpiece for tomorrow’s Mystic Masquerade from my window decor 😂 (and a mask I got at upcycle years ago!) Can’t wait to wear it and party celebrating 10 years of @upcyclepartsshop!

This one was an honor. Custom awards requested by the current Board of @upcyclepartsshop to honor the two founding directors who were there when we became an independent organization back in 2018. SWOOOOOOON.

They fulfilled their full terms!

It made me so happy to get this request and to make these two dynamos a quirky award of gratitude for all they contributed to the beautiful monster we all created together. 🤩 Ah, life. You’re pretty amazing.

Thanks for being part of it all @declutterwithdevon and @searchingformysteries, what devotion & leadership & heart & soul you gave in your Board service 🥹🤩

(please note these two are also entrepreneurs so give ‘em a follow & see what they can do! They have more time on their hands as Board retirees now! 😆😂 )

Creativity & leadership in the backyard with my boy. That’s a pretty blissful day in my book. Hydro-dipping (spray painting water then dipping into it) is his specialty and sometimes we collaborate on custom award designs with it! This is just some work in progress but these completed awards will be ready to share in early November. Recognition for a first time award ceremony at a youth organization, we’re excited about the way this project is turning out 🙌🏽
