Yesterday was a big day for Mercy Ships & hopefully for healthcare in West Africa. Two historic things that we have been working towards for many years happened. 1) The President of Senegal, H.E. Macky Sall hosted heads of state, and ministers of health, country delegates from some of the countries Mercy Ships has visited in the past to come and sign the Declaration of Dakar. Leaders in attendance pledged a commitment towards improving access to quality and affordable surgical, obstetric and anesthetic care in Africa by 2030. This signing took place on our new ship the Global Mercy, with Mercy Ships helping facilitate this. 2) After a tour of the Global Mercy, and the singing of the declaration, H.E President Macky Sall and Mercy Ships founder Don Stephens spoke at the official inauguration ceremony for our newest ship. Now, with a two-fleet ship Mercy Ships will have double the capacity to bring hope and healing to Africa and support these vital efforts leaders have made to improve the health infrastructure of their countries. #globalmercy #mercyships #senegal🇸🇳 #dakardeclaration #hopeandhealing
