as they say, “use it or lose it”!!! consistent practice is 🔑✨ but let’s drop the pressure. just try to make language learning enjoyable for yourself and break away from the idea that you always have to get it right! as long as you try that’s all that matters 🥰 before you know it you’ll be making progress!

if you know me you know I said that 2023 would be the year of revenge travel after being in China for a solid 3.5 years — and it WAS!!! but beyond that, 2023 was such a healing year for me in terms of reconnecting with the people in my life, including those not pictured 💜 feeling super blessed and grateful!!

this year for the first time ever I ran two marathons. in my first one, Paris taught me that I am capable of winning — and by winning, I mean overcoming my mind and taking on daunting tasks. I ran nonstop. in this second one, NYC taught me that I’m capable of losing — but it’s not just about the time and the results you get… it’s about all the training that goes into it. I have mixed feelings about this race because, while it was an incredible experience, I don’t believe I had prepared myself enough, I let life get in the way (I mean yes I have a life) and so the bridges and hills in the NYC course were absolute KILLER. I didn’t beat my previous time (4:42) as I had hoped I would and ended up getting blisters on my feet — still, I refused to walk and pushed myself to run the whole way. obviously everyone knows that marathons go way beyond times, it’s about community and overcoming yourself, but deep down I know it would have been that much better if I had been able to improve, just a little bit. that’s why (for me) NYC was in many ways a bittersweet mix of success and failure. if you ask me, this was more impactful than the first, and i needed it actually. bc if you want to go far in this life you have to seek failure, it’s inevitable. fail to learn and then grow. you don’t owe it to anyone else. just you. 💜 next time: NO MORE RUNNING WITH A BELT — goodbye training wheels and extra weight! and hello hills and speed training

with all that said I have to say I’m so grateful for the people that showed up for me with so much love and unconditional support (you know who you are) and the amazing people from the running community that I met along the way 🥹💜 now the question is… Chicago or Berlin for number 3?

Something I didn’t mention in the video is that you can also learn how to surf in Sanya! 🏄‍♀️🏄🏄‍♂️ Houhai Bay has a lot of surfing lessons that are available right at your hotel~~ 🤙🏼

The overall vibe here is very bohemian, very casual and very relaxing! And for people like me who come from coastal cities, this is the closest thing to home in China. Highly recommend 🥰
