I’ve been hiding this for a long time.

When I first considered creating an immersion version of SOLO, I asked myself one question: should it become a completely separate dripper?

The answer was no.

If the original SOLO was truly well designed, immersion shouldn’t require starting again. It should have been part of the plan from the beginning.

And secretly, it was.

For a long time, I told everyone that the ribs around SOLO were there to keep the dripper balanced. That was true, but it wasn’t the whole story. They were also designed to lock into the silicone immersion base I had always hoped to create.

But as a competitor, I knew the original SOLO was too small for how I wanted to brew in the compulsory round. So I created a new SOLO, taller, larger and made from Tritan.

That is how SOLO SPIN was born. Not as a separate version, but as the next step in a system that had been waiting to reveal itself.

And before asking anyone else to trust it, I used SOLO SPIN on the world stage myself.

I wanted to be the first to prove that it works.

02 / PIP EXTRACTION
Percolation. Immersion. Percolation.

PIP was actually the original recipe I designed for my competition coffee. It gave me the cup I wanted, but required too many actions to manage across three brewers within my presentation time.

That limitation eventually led me to create Two-Phase Extraction, but PIP remained a different expression of the same control.

RECIPE:
14 g coffee · 200 ml water · 1:14 · 80 ppm

It moves through three stages.

Phase 1 Percolation
0:00 — Keep the valve open and add 50 ml at 80°C.

Phase 2 Immersion
0:30 — Close the valve and add 100 ml at 94°C.
1:00 — Open the valve, let it drain.

Phase 3 Percolation
1:30 — Add the final 50 ml at 80°C and drain fully.

Sweetness with clarity. The roundness of immersion with the clean finish of percolation.

01 / TWO-PHASE MOISTURE EXTRACTION
Built for the world stage. Made for every day.

The recipe I’m sharing first was actually the second one I designed.

I created it for the 2026 World Brewers Cup in Brussels because my original recipe required too many actions to manage across three brewers while presenting.

At the same time, I wanted a method our baristas could reproduce consistently across different coffees and processes. After a long period of testing, it became my go-to recipe.

It follows two phases.
Penetration for even saturation.
Development to build sweetness, clarity and balance.

14 g coffee · 200 ml water · 1:14 · 80 ppm

PHASE 1 — Penetration

0:00 — Close the valve and add 100 ml at 94°C.
1:00 — Open the valve and drain fully.

PHASE 2 — Development

1:20–1:25 — Close the valve and add the final 100 ml at 80°C.
2:20–2:25 — Open the valve and drain fully.

The most forgiving SOLO SPIN recipe, perfect for daily brewing.

Simple. Reliable. Repeatable.

How’s your brewing today?

Folding to minimize bypass has always felt like a small ritual to me, a moment of focus. But even then, consistency is hard to achieve, especially when trying to get the paper to sit at the exact angle of the dripper.

That’s why I usually don’t fold and prefer regular wave cupcake filters. They sit better, look right and even allow a little bypass, which I don’t see as a bad thing.

But there are actually two things I’ve been quietly testing for a while now. I haven’t shared them yet because the past months I was fully focused on preparing for the National Brewers Cup, so this stayed behind the scenes.

The first thing is a new version of the @hiflux_coffee flat round paper, which I call Pancake.
The second is a new 3D paper folding tool.
Both are still unreleased.

Back in October in Shanghai, I met the creator of the GX2 @coffee_please_tw and received his dripper, which I genuinely admire. What really blew my mind though, was his filter paper folder. The way he solved the folding issue was so simple, so elegant. Pure genius!

I loved it immediately. So I tried to design that tool, adapted specifically for SOLO folding. And this is the prototype I've been using.

If you look closely at the video, you’ll also spot another small detail..a new, unreleased version of the Pressor Tool v2.

Three things here are still unreleased but maybe not for long.

A coffee dripper is not elevated just by its geometry or material — but intention and narrative. Two ideas that shaped the creation of @solodripper, designed by @jackietrananh, 6th place at the World Brewers Cup 2024.

A conical dripper with a flat base, the SOLO Dripper was built with water flow and extraction as its focus — calibrated to bring out the best in a brew. More than just coffee flavor though, the SOLO Dripper also embodies Jackie’s journey back to himself.

Its narrative and flavor extraction made it the natural choice for @georgew.peng at the World Brewers Cup 2025, where it helped carry his championship brew.

At its core, the SOLO Dripper expresses forward motion — refining, restoring, and continuing on our coffee journeys. A perfect tool for adventure that’s now available on our webshop.

- TIP OF THE DAY -

Here’s a quick tutorial on how I fold my paper filter to get a minimal bypass brew. You don’t need any special tools, just a coffee spoon or even your finger.

When I brew for more people, I prefer using a small spoon or fork for hygiene. After rinsing the paper, I press and fold the inner waves against the wall until they flatten.

If I brew only for myself, I use my finger. I make the same movement, rolling the finger along the waves and it’s naturally faster.

That’s all. Simple, quick and you can do it with whatever you already have at home.

How I do my compulsory round: The Non-Negotiable Paper Press Routine-A Step-by-Step Breakdown

This method ensures a perfectly seated paper filter in the @solodripper dripper every time—no negotiators, no shortcuts, just a pure and repeatable technique in 3 seconds. Here’s how it’s done:

—

1. Rinse the Paper First

2. Use Another Solo for Pressing

3. Decide the Direction & Slight Turn Before Pressing

4. Press Down Straight—No Angle

5. Slight Turn to Lock the Shape
