Something special and different for our weekend braai! This Grenache Noir rosé from our wine friend Graham (@jongo2.0) and @the_fledge spent 9 months in barrel, bringing texture, subtle spice and a richness you don’t often find in South African rosé. Plenty of red berry fruit, a deeper colour than expected, and very easy to keep going back to.

Enjoyed it with Mom and Dad, and it complemented our meal perfectly 🍷

Forget a stuffy wine list! Our by-the-glass selection gets a refresh every single week, hand-picked by yours truly (your local, friendly Somm). I take my job very seriously… which means I watch the forecast, chase the perfect chill on our whites, and read the vibes from our favourite regulars to make sure the pour is always spot on!

“DJ Hi-Tek! Drop the beat!!”

Ridiculous technological advancements this vintage #20PLENTY1 at Fledge & Co.’s super secret desert “Eyrie” with the use of whole-bunch pressing in a Vaslin 420 (built 1987 in Chalonnes s/Loire) & filled via bucket ‘n spade. As an aside, we also found the time lapse feature on the iPhone 6.

The rivulets of green-gold goodness are Chardonnay raised on sandstone shale in amongst orchids ‘n fynbos in a “continental clime” & were harvested about three weeks later than normal. Giving it the “Burg” standard treatment of loving neglect & it’ll make its way into our Vagabond “Cape Blend”.

It’s getting a tard nerve wracking in the good old Cape with initial heat waves making way for seriously wet cold fronts & the week ahead looking pretty cool ‘n humid with the fair share of reds ‘n Viognier still on the vines. Quality is looking superb & with lower alcohols & lazer beam acids ‘n shy flavours at the moment, but with time they come out in all their flamboyant fruit glory. FYI it’s looking like a Sauvignon year IMHO.

“El Dorado” old bush vine Swartland #colombard destined for our Skn ‘n Bnz bottling - after about a week or more on stems, skins, pips ‘n all it’ll be foot pressed directly into barrel & left undisturbed for 24 months plus depending on how it goes. #fledgewine #drinkbetterwine #handcrafted #skn&bnz

Keeping is s-leesy! & takin’ it easy. Racking & assembling the 20PLENTY #elgin Viognier. We only bottle a mere 200 cases of this rogue Rhone maverick ‘n aromatically tempestuous grape & exclusively use a few rows from a windswept hillside festooned with Bokkeveld scali. The 2019 is showing particularly well & should make any grey day brighter, so get some @pozzo_finewines_spirits in Belgium & @publikwine if you’re in sunny Souff Êfrica!

While aimlessly wandering through some Torrential sites on the less-light web in search of the new Mandalorian, came across this cinematic “gem” from a bioscope nearby Gardens & a sweet deal they have on a new wine. Take a gander!

So for this week @vinopronto are running a bit of a promo on our Fledge & Co. Stellenbosch Veld Versnit / Field Blend - an idiosyncratic field blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Franc & Alicante. There wasn’t much made, so make haste!

As it’s 2020 - this is just a spoof video, but @vinopronto’s promo & our wine is very real.

Keeping it s-leesy! Racked, stacked & loaded #elgin Riesling 2020. Now to give the barrels a deserved thorough deep cleanse & await vintage 2021.
This vintage we took a more Plaz slant to our Riesling, picking early as always, but fermenting & maturing a portion in old oak to combine with tank fermented ‘n sur lie matured & demi-john aged components. #fledgewine #drinkbettetwine #elegantlyelgin #riesling #DizzyRizzy
