It’s easy to spend hours dialing in the band, then leave the sermon mic with yesterday’s settings. But for most churches, the message is the most important thing people hear each week.

Take a few extra minutes to check gain, EQ, compression, and mic placement before service. Small adjustments can make a huge difference in clarity and help people stay focused on the message—not the audio.

Don’t let the sermon be the weakest-sounding part of your mix.

The right plugin won’t fix a bad mix—but it can solve problems faster and help you get more consistent results.

Here are 4 plugins I reach for all the time:
• InTrigger – cleaner gates with more control.
• Waves Tune – subtle live vocal pitch correction.
• F6 – dynamic EQ for fixing frequencies only when they become a problem.
• RDeEsser – smooths out harsh vocals without killing clarity.

What FOH plugin can’t you live without? Let me know below. 👇

Programming lights ahead of time means fewer things to worry about during service and more consistency every week.

This is one of my favorite ways to help a small tech team create a polished experience without needing someone behind the lighting console the entire night.

Would your church benefit from lighting automation?

Stop running lights manually.

Using Playback and MIDI cues, you can automate your lighting changes so they happen exactly when you need them. Every song section, lighting look, and transition can be triggered automatically, giving your team one less thing to worry about during service.

Automation won’t replace good programming, but it can make your Sundays more consistent, repeatable, and stress-free.

What parts of your service have you automated?

5 church tech purchases under $200 that are actually worth buying.

Not every gear upgrade has to cost thousands of dollars.

These are 5 tools I use regularly that solve real problems, save time, and make serving in church tech easier:

• SmallRig VB99 SE Mini
• Korg nanoKONTROL2
• Shure SM58
• OHR-1
• Powerplay P16

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from the small purchases that remove friction from your workflow.

Which one would you buy first?

Open Sound Meter vs SMAART: Which one should you use?

Both tools help you measure and tune sound systems, but they’re built for different users.

✅ Open Sound Meter

* Free and open source
* Great for learning audio measurement
* Covers the essentials without the cost

✅ SMAART

* Industry-standard professional software
* More advanced measurement and analysis tools
* Built for engineers who need deeper system tuning and support

The best tool isn’t always the most expensive one. Choose the tool that fits your needs, budget, and workflow.

Which one are you using right now?

Installing a Sennheiser G4 IEM system isn’t just about getting signal from point A to point B.

A clean RF setup means fewer dropouts, better reliability, and more confidence for your worship team every Sunday.

Whether you’re running 1 mix or 10, taking the time to properly install and coordinate your wireless IEMs can make a huge difference in the experience on stage.

What wireless IEM system are you using at your church?

🚨 Over-compression and under-compression can both hurt your livestream.

Too much compression can make your mix feel flat, lifeless, and exhausting to listen to.

Too little compression can make your vocals, drums, and instruments feel inconsistent and difficult to follow.

The goal isn’t maximum loudness. The goal is controlled dynamics.

A great livestream mix keeps levels consistent while still allowing the music to breathe and the big moments to feel big.

How much compression are you using on your broadcast mix? 🎚️👇
