i trained for 6 months to swim .37 miles😓

definitely thought this was going to be a fun and celebratory post about me finishing the ironman 70.3 race in rockford yesterday, but unfortunately i didn’t even make it through the first thirty minutes of the race. however i wanted to post bc me failing felt really embarrassing and shameful and i didn’t want to talk about it, but ultimately those feelings come from my limited perspective. yesterday i cried for the months and miles i spent working towards this goal, thinking of myself as a failure and thinking of this experience as a waste, but today i see that yesterday was not the defining moment of the last six months. it was just a drop in the water! while in the moment, it seemed like the most important day and, therefore, the worst day to fail, the most important day was actually the day i knew there was a big chance i would not finish this race and decided i would do it anyways😸 and i am so lucky that while i was crying in the med tent (even tho i was fine) i looked up and saw nick and maya coming to pick me up and celebrate me anyways.

this is all to say that ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH DOING BAD! can’t wait to try again eventually now that i’ve learned how to swim and ride a bike😊 but yes i’m still sad and that’s okay by @reeseonpace

Hi everyone! Surprise surprise... I am running the @chimarathon with @alsunitedchi AGAIN! So grateful to have a healthy body that will allow me to do this for the third year in a row, and an organization with a mission I believe in so much! As I have just started graduate school at Rush University a few weeks ago for Speech-Language Pathology, this organization has just grown more and more meaningful to me.

To celebrate, I am doing a very fun thing to fundraise this year... I have recruited the help of my mom, dad, and brother to pick my race day outfit, but as family does... THEY ARE TRYING TO EMBARRASS ME! So, you get to decide which embarrassing shirt out of the ones my family selected I will wear for the entire race day! Here’s how it works:

- Every $10 donated = 1 vote for the shirt you want to see me in on Marathon day!
- When you donate, to choose what shirt you want, either comment here, text me, or wait for an email from me asking you which team or shirt you are voting for!
- If you are giving more than $10, you have multiple votes, so you can either double down or play the odds!
- The shirt with the most votes will win!
(contest will end on Oct. 1st)

View my website with the shirts you can pick from (also in these pictures), as well as the donation link at the link in my bio!!

LETS GO SUPPORT A GREAT CAUSE AT THE EXPENSE OF MY DIGNITY!!!!!!!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🩷🩷🩷🩷 by @reeseonpace

everyone has some days where they feel great and some days when they feel not so great— this week was deffo a not so great week for me. there were a lot of highs especially w my runs and swims but overall the motivation is low. burnout has sadly become a familiar foe!

the last picture is of me on saturday standing and trying to convince myself to go do ANYTHING! i ended up standing there for ten full minutes before deciding to take a bath and try again the next day. maybe it’s not motivational in the way that people might expect, but the “grit through it” philosophy doesn’t work long term bc if you constantly are pushing yourself to the point that you hate what you’re doing, why do it? at the end of the day, is the medal worth misery???? NO! it’s supposed to be fun. so what i missed a few days ITS LITERALLY JUST LIFE

A SUCCESSFUL WEEK WAS UPON US!❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

needed this! feeling my confidence (and strength) increase every day && feeling grateful for the people who were able to motivate me this week!!!! hate to say this prematurely but we are SO back and i’m going to ride this motivation wave until the end!

as i told myself this week, you don’t have to stay loyal to your suffering! a good week is a good week and leave the other stuff in the past😊 let the good times roll

🚴🏻‍♀️ 2 hr 45 min

did i meet all my training goals this week? no. did i swim? no. did i cycle outside? no. did i cry this week because i didn’t want to do the ironman anymore? yes.

BUT it’s just a week. and the most important lesson i have learned from this training block so far is how to handle suffering😭that sounds so sad but yah that’s where this week took me— im sorry for the lack of pep! it’ll be back next week hopefully😁

some notable activities from this week-> 10k PR during 8 mile run with friends!, speeding up my “easy pace”, & longest bike session so far😁⭐️

in total
🏃🏻‍♀️3h 14min
🚴🏻‍♀️ 2h 36min
🏊🏻‍♀️ 0h 0min (i know i know i just don’t like to swim! i will go this week!!!!)
🏋🏻‍♀️ 1 hr 0min

can definitely tell that training needs to ramp up soon and the next 11 weeks with school and work will be tough but for me it is more about getting to the start line than the finish line! by @reeseonpace

hello my name is reese and this picture is from my first ever long run almost exactly two years ago in march, 2023! i ran two miles without stopping which was the most i had ever done. to this day i think that this is my most meaningful run:,) at this point i had signed up for the chicago marathon for that october and needed that bit of proof that i could do it, and while it was a small amount compared to what i would have to do, it was enough to motivate me to try!

this year i am racing my first Ironman 70.3 and running my third chicago marathon, and need some help raising money for @alsunitedchi to get there. i am hoping this account will allow people to understand the challenges of training for endurance events. fundraising does not only help me at the start line, but in all the time leading up! hope you enjoy my shitposting of all things training-related, and if you are able to offer financial support please click the link in my bio! there is a fun challenge i am doing for this year’s marathon fundraising that i will post about later! by @reeseonpace
