figured out how to drive the eink spectra 2x faster!

just added a new fast mode in the camera dashboard settings which uses an undocumented clock frequency setting to push the display faster... I haven't tested the long-term panel wear or the color accuracy yet, so not sure if there's a tradeoff there. The standard refresh rate is still the default for those of you who enjoy the slowness.

If you already have a reFrame camera, you can automatically update from the dashboard settings.

In this video it might look like the left display is significantly less punchy and more faded, but I did some more tests and it might be just that panel's fault — it looks like this both in fast and standard mode. by @reframe.camera

the same photo — on the ePaper screen, dithered & raw 〜꒪✧

reFrame uses the Pi Camera Module 3 which has a really nice HDR function that makes photos like this window one possible! The original photos are intentionally super soft and denoised to help the dithering algorithm make the large color blocks vibrant.

While the ePaper display remains the primary way to experience each shot on reFrame, you can also download both the original and dithered versions of each photo using the web dashboard. by @reframe.camera

This camera has a 4in e-paper display. It comes from a DIY project called @reframe.camera designed by the Bulgarian artist, @kaloyanez. The thing I like about it is it is a bit glitchy, a bit pixel-y, a bit polaroid-y, with a touch of double exposure when the images transition. This set of photos by @ade3 comes from a train car in Loveland, Colorado. by @reframe.camera

reFrame is an experimental digital camera designed to capture and display one photo at a time.

It uses a 6-color ePaper display, giving each photo a distinctive dithered texture. After you press the shutter, the display takes about 20 seconds to refresh — colors cycle through as electrical charges physically move ink particles into place, like a digital polaroid. by @reframe.camera
