🍚 Refugee Community Kitchen has been cooking and serving meals to displaced people in Northern France for more than 10 years. Rice is at the heart of almost everything meal we make. It's affordable to cook at scale, it's part of a filling, healthy diet that's essential for many people who have travelled a long way from home.

At the moment we're cooking and serving one tonne of rice (that’s 1000kg!) every single month. In June alone, we distributed over 43,000 meals in Calais and Dunkirk to people who often have nowhere warm to sleep and no kitchen of their own.

Cooking nutritious meals almost every day comes at a real cost. We currently spend €1,862 a month on rice alone, and with prices rising, that figure keeps climbing. It's one of our biggest and most consistent expenses, and it's one we can't cut corners on as it's a big part to a filling, nutritious meal, and that can make a real difference to someone's day.

"I’ve been coming for three years.It gives me something to look forward to, it’s proper good food, and it removes worry."

These words from one of our regular service users mean a lot to us.

The @food.foundation's latest survey found that 12.2% of UK households are experiencing food insecurity, affecting 6.5 million adults and 2.2 million children.

Food insecurity means a constant state of uncertainty. Not knowing when the next meal will be, for themselves and their family, is exhausting. Money worries and food insecurity are linked to anxiety and isolation.
A hot meal, cooked with love and served without judgement, meets an immediate need. But our services don't provide only food. They are also something for people to look forward to, a place to have a chat, a smile, a reliable service people can count on, every week.

The origin story of RCK is beautiful, and @refugeecommunitykitchen has been Glasto family since Day One.

Co-founded by @steve_bedlam, who also birthed @glastothecommon @rumshackglasto, RCK is built from festival and free party heritage (and skill sets) - and this has fed 3.5 million nutritious hot meals to displaced people since 2015.

The Common is deeply proud to support their work. They exist/survive on your donations, so every penny spent on tickets @thefoxandfirkin 17 October makes a real difference. Help us raise as much money as we can so they continue their remarkable, vital work

We cooked and distributed 32,281 hot, nutritious meals in London and Northern France:
- 22,164 meals in Calais
- 6,300 meals in Dunkirk, distributed by @charitableroots and @mobilerefugeesupport
