Current read: Every Ordinary Thing by @jessicajoycewrites ⚾️🎥🌊💙

I’m was in California this weekend visiting family and brought the most perfect read with me on my kindle! I’m halfway through EOT and I’ve been absolutely loving it (will be finishing it on the plane, 100%). Jessica Joyce, your mind! Your prose! Your characters! I’m always obsessed.

Reposting my Bad Words review because it’s FINALLY release day!! I cannot believe it’s here! I read this book in October of last year so it’s a bit surreal that it’s finally out 🩷🧡🩵❤️

Here’s my original review:

Do you ever read a book and think, “this was needed right now?” Bad Words is a propulsive read, with the type of tension and commentary that urge you to read past your bedtime. Rioghnach’s prose is sharp, witty, and honest, with imagery and characters that draw you in from page one. Parker and Selina’s feud made me think a lot about how authors engage with reviewers, and how reviews often need to be written in good faith to be honest. The thing I appreciated the most about Selina is how she never wavered from her principles and didn’t allow anyone to bully her into retracting her criticism. The familial and friend relationships brought depth to both Parker and Selina’s characters and allowed Rioghnach to explore the ramifications of their public personas in relation to how they coped with being so exposed. Allowing public opinion and hundreds, if not thousands, of perspectives and eyes on you is unnatural, and this novel did not shy away from combatting the idea that sometimes putting the internet away can be healthy (and needed). As a certified romance reader (trademark), I really enjoyed the will-they-won’t-they romance. But what I really loved was the ways in which Parker and Selina changed their original perspectives of each other (and their writing) as they grew closer and allowed more pieces of themselves to be revealed, including their families. This is the kind of novel that’s important, timely, and going to be big. I can feel it.

In Every Future, It’s Us by @katienaymonwrites 🥂💜

I can’t believe I’m finally posting my review for this book! It’s long overdue and I’m sooooo excited to be getting it up on here.

This book was so insanely good I don’t even know if I can accurately capture it’s greatness in my review. This is the perfect friends to lovers romance book in my personal opinion. Katie Naymon’s prose is so rich a specific and intimate.

In Every Future, It’s Us follows Florence and Tom, best friends who met when they were kids, as they’re forced to work together on planning the New Year’s party their mom’s typically throw. The catch? They haven’t spoken in a year because of something that happened last New Year’s eve. They have this yearly tradition where they write predictions for each other and then open them at the end of the year. Whoever gets the most predictions correct gets to make a big choice for the other person. Both Tom and Florence are well rounded characters that Naymon meticulously paints, with family relationships that seem so, so real and grounded. The narrative and the two main characters are heightened by the close proximity of their families, especially since they haven’t told anyone they’re not on good terms. The layers! The drama! Perfection.

What I loved about this book is how Florence and Tom’s friendship got a little messy at times, especially as they made those big decisions, but Katie Naymon leans into this. Being friends can be messy, especially when you add complicated feelings and partners into the mix. It’s the kind of interpersonal imperfection in a friends to lovers book that makes you cringe a little, but that you can’t look away from. Inevitably, being friends with someone that long and not stepping into that next level, but maybe letting some more romantic feelings spill over, will happen. (Review continues in comments)

Free Falling by @authorlylasage 👻❤️💕

Lyla Sage really knows how to endear me to her characters, and this book was no exception. A fake dating romance with more ghostly exploits? Count me in! This was tender, swoony, sexy, captivating, and has such great mental health rep. I loved how the characters communicated and I also appreciated seeing how Clarke and Collins’ relationship to their abilities differed. Add in a couple Wild Blue cameos and I’m pleased. I had a great time tearing through this!
