Highlights from Talk It Out, Walk It Out 2026! Remembering Cherubs’ work to advance the health and well-being of Black women in our community began three years ago when we learned about the disparities (preventable differences in health outcomes) Black Women face. Talk It Out, Walk It Out has grown from a one-day event designed to raise awareness to the official kickoff event for Black Women’s Health Month (BWHM), a month-long series of community-led activations across Metro Detroit. This year brought an especially exciting achievement: Mayor Mary Sheffield officially declared August as Black Women’s Health Month in Detroit! We are so proud about the growth of the initiative and how it’s been embraced by the community. Thank you to everyone who showed up to engage in the conversations, raise awareness, and uplift the community.

The kickoff event may be behind us, but Black Women’s Health Month is just getting started. Visit our website to view the official BWHM community calendar and find out how you can support Black women’s health throughout the month of August: rememberingcherubs.org/bwhm

Sometimes the idea of coming together in a group setting can be scary for parents. It may feel overwhelming or induce anxiety when you don’t know what to expect or don’t want to face certain emotions. That’s why we take great care to create safe and gentle spaces for our community to gather.

With that said, we invite you to join Remembering Cherubs at Sip N Read Book Bar for a Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day candle lighting. The evening will include personal stories from parents who have experienced loss, and a special reading from The Pregnancy Loss Guidebook, read by Remembering Cherubs’ community auntie, Christine Lawson.

A little background you may not know: Wave of Light is a global observance held on October 15th each year where people light candles at 7:00 PM local time to honor babies lost to miscarriage, stillbirth, infant death, and other forms of perinatal loss. We’ll represent the Detroit area, lighting candles in honor of all our babies alongside parents all around the world.

Sip N Read Book Bar is a cute little space with sofas and comfy chairs that feel like you’re sitting in a living room among friends. We’ll have light bites available, and you can purchase wine and mocktails from the Book Bar. And we’re bringing in Dr. Rose Moten to close the evening with a sound bowl grounding meditation.

Will you join us? We’d love to see you and honor your baby. Feel free to invite your friends or family members to join you. You can register on Eventbrite: rcwaveoflight.eventbrite.com

Please note: Because this year’s Wave of Light will be held at Sip N Read Book Bar, all attendees must be 21 or older. We appreciate your understanding.

This photo was taken somewhere in the mid 2000’s when I was in my twenties. Back then I was still trying to figure out who I was and what I really wanted to do with my life. I thought I was a lil cute, so I gave modeling a shot. It was fun but it didn’t fill me up. I never would have imagined that taking the worst moments of my life losing my babies would help me understand who I am and how I wanted to show up in the world. Those moments led me to become a community leader, and I did it just by bringing people like me together who were hurting and deserved to heal. I look back on this photo feeling so grateful that I have it figured out now. I know who I am. And I’m grateful I get to show up every day and do my best to bring light to my community. 💟 by @rememberingcherubs
