It was a real pleasure to be part of the jury for the International Urban Project Award 2026, organized by Bauwelt and World Architecture Magazine.

This year’s theme, “Architecture That Speaks”, brought together a very wide range of perspectives on urban identity and on how architecture can empower local communities, sparking many interesting conversations among the jury members.

A great opportunity to return to Beijing, even if only for a couple of days.

Can a school work like a city?

In Shenzhen, reMIX studio answers with a bold yes.

Futian High School replaces walls with connections, creating a campus where courtyards, bridges, roof gardens, and shared public spaces encourage students to explore, interact, and learn beyond the classroom.

Built for 3,000 students in one of the world's most densely populated cities, it proves that thoughtful design can transform even the greatest constraints into opportunities for learning.

This isn't just a school.

It's a new way of thinking about education.

Red Bird Makerspace by reMIX Studio redefines the future of engineering education through a dynamic environment built for innovation, collaboration, and experimentation.

Spread across a network of interconnected spaces, the project brings together flexible design studios, advanced fabrication labs, immersive learning zones, and a dramatic High Bay testing arena — creating a seamless ecosystem where ideas move from concept to creation.

With exposed structures, adaptable interiors, and a distinctive machinic design language, the space celebrates the process of invention — a place that evolves with every experiment, every prototype, and every new possibility.
