Many theatre productions start with equal parts thrill and trepidation. And many theatre-makers promise more than we can deliver.

This part of the project @the_big_m_of_madness was beyond my knowledge and experience but sat squarely within my area of interest. I watched a lot of the trouble-shooting from the sidelines, thoroughly impressed with these troopers: Vinod, Sachin, Purple, Subodha and Anush.

Those of us who work in theatre have a lot of heart but we also flop miserably, attempting things we have no business doing. The bark texture is glossier than I planned, my sawdust moss barely visible, the electric parts worked properly last in this video, overall a clunky execution.

Over these two decades, I have collected more failures than not. Here is another such feather in my cap. I truly relished each moment of the madness, aiming for the moon and missing it by many miles. by @rencynobody

Actual footage of what happens to my abdomen every month shot from inside my uterus.

The colour on the cutting mat has been corrected from rage red to purity white.

Some of this rage may be featuring on stage end of this month with the @the_big_m_of_madness .

A world where this evil monster doesn’t exist is a world devoid of magic, mischief and mystery.

But mostly, that fighter spirit which kept the household balance.

Laser boi, Frazer Town, Vagator, but he comes running only if you call him Come ‘Ere, Kitten. If there were red juicy tomatoes left on the kitchen counter, they would be gone in no time. Even at 14, he was just a tiny baby boy kitten.

The silences are heavy and time passes slow. He has joined the ghostly matriarchs looming in my life - mummy and ammachi.

Far from his home on the banks of Kerala’s backwaters, a young man named Avarachan labours in Arabia, building houses so that his family can one day build their own. Told through letters filled with love, bitterness, and sorrow, Kadalamma — the sea goddess — recounts Avarachan’s story. As he navigates the harsh realities of life in a glittering new city, his hometown slowly fades into memory. Though he finds brief moments of refuge, he continues to long for a place to call home.

Kadalamma draws its rhythm from the series Dubai Kathu Pattu (Dubai Letter Songs), written and popularised by S. A. Jameel, who gave voice to the wives of Gulf Malayalee workers left behind. Even the myth of Kadalamma may have travelled the old spice routes, transforming from the sea goddess Mazu.

Through mask work, physical movement, and paper structures with simple automaton mechanisms, Kadalamma reflects on migration — asking: How do we reconcile exile when both the land we left and the one to which we return have irrevocably changed?
