We all know that memory is unreliable. We fill in the gaps with fiction. Why then do we mourn its loss? Maybe because, sometimes it's all we have? Is memory the only thing that makes us, us?

Come find out with 'To Forget is to Remember is to Forget' — a playful, tender and maybe even fun ride exploring all things memory. It brings together storytelling, video, photography, music and performance, to ask what it means to inherit loss.

One Basheer who has been there for every single one.

For nearly two decades, Paul Mathew has been the thread that holds "Under the Mangosteen Tree" together - Basheer as narrator, witness, participant, and sometimes simply the quiet presence watching these extraordinary lives unfold.

Paul is, in every sense, a legend of theatre. And he brings to Basheer something that is impossible to replace: discipline, rigour, generosity and an immense joy in the act of performing.

There could perhaps be no one else in this role.

And after all these years, watching Paul step into Basheer with the same curiosity, precision and mischief feels both completely familiar and incredibly precious.

As this journey comes to an end, we are reminded that theatre is not only about the stories we tell. It is about the people who carry them, year after year, show after show, until the character becomes part of their lives.

Thank you, Paul, for carrying Basheer with us for 18 years. ❤️

I was in my twenties, when I first stepped onto the stage as Ettukali Mamoonhu - the village rogue with an oversized ego, endless swagger and, somewhere beneath it all, an aching vulnerability.

At that age, I was simply trying to play a character.

Nearly twenty years later, I realise Basheer was shaping me instead.

Life has taught me to look beyond heroes and villains. Love has become gentler, humanity more complicated, and kindness far more important than certainty.

Every time I've returned to @perch_chennai Under the Mangosteen Tree, I've found a different story waiting for me...

Basheer's words haven't changed, I have.

As we begin this farewell tour after all these years, I'm filled with gratitude. For the audiences who've walked this journey with us, for the extraordinary people I've shared the stage with, and above all, for Basheer, whose words continue to remind me that the greatest stories are simply about being human.

One last journey. What a privilege it has been. ❤️
