Workers of the world! Honeybees. Weeds. Nitrogen fixing plants. Emotional support animals. Best friends. Lovers. Ancestors. Spirit workers. Music makers. Party planners. Bugs. Water bearers. Life-givers. Care-takers.

Today I am affirming our power as workers and also thinking about what collective shadows we have to attend to…

What kind of work have we been socialized to value? How does mass consumption and technology impact what kind of work is done? What kind of work is invisible? What kind of work makes other kinds of work possible? What kind of work actually keeps us alive?

Workers are survivors! caregivers! land stewards! farmers! cooks! artists! parents! medicine makers! space holders! witches! cleaners! I hope you honor the work that matters to you. I hope you see the work you do that doesn’t make money only as a sign of what has been taken from us. We need workers alive. We need workers working together. We need workers releasing shame! We need workers resting. Celebrating. Reassessing. Making big choices together. Being bold. Loving hard.

Your attention is work too. This is a time to re-center who and what we are willing to work for.

on saturday, december 6th we’ll gather together for @_uppercutt_ 2nd annual Good Grief Gathering! i’ll be offering a community tea + grief ritual at 11am to kick us off with some tea and allow our communal cup to hold our own and each other’s grief, even if momentarily

the ritual will include tea service (likely a japanese green tea and possibly another dark tea or herbal blend) and ill guide us through several simple somatic practices meant to help us access the innate wisdom of our bodies

the tea plant contains many beneficial parts that help to both energize and calm the nervous system—priming us for connection and care. grief is not meant to be moved alone. a great grief teacher of our time, francis weller, says that we can think of grief like a river—its meant to move. however in our individualistic culture it often gets stuck in isolation. our job, as weller suggests, is to simply warm the grief so it can flow on its own, as it’s meant to.
