From the second-fewest July resale sales in 20 years and townhomes taking the lead in new-home sales, to zero concrete condo pre-sale launches so far this year and the growing patience required to assemble land, the conversation gets into the signals shaping what's next. Andrew also tackles a listener question with a familiar dilemma: when you inherit an older home, is it worth selling the house—or the land it's sitting on? What are buyers and renters actually looking for in the homes of tomorrow? For years, there’s been plenty of assumption—but very little qualitative data—around the decisions shaping how people buy and rent homes today. So we decided to go out and find the answers. The results point to a clear shift in priorities: homes that support everyday living, flexible routines, wellness, and practicality. Larger living spaces are being valued over enclosed dens. Functional kitchens continue to shape decision-making. Amenities tied to lifestyle and routine matter more than ever. And while many renters remain priced out, the desire for homeownership remains strong. Homes of Tomorrow explores the real lifestyles shaping housing decisions across British Columbia and what those evolving expectations could mean for the future of housing design and development. 🔗 Read the full white paper via link in bio by @rennieintelligence
Are we building the right homes? 🤔 In this episode, Ryan Berlin and Ryan Wyse are joined by Senior Product Development Manager Elaina Cowley to unpack new research on how buyers and renters are making housing decisions today. The findings point to a clear shift in preferences: 68% would purchase if affordability wasn’t an issue, 55% show strong interest in townhomes, and 92% of buyers report high car ownership. When it comes to amenities, the gym ranks number one while functional space is winning out (84% prefer a larger living room over an enclosed den). Turns out, storage is now valued more than traditional features like dual vanities. What people want in a home is changing and the implications run deeper than design alone. 🔗 Explore our Homes of Tomorrow Survey | White Paper or watch the full episode for more context behind the numbers.
