Reno, be firewise and recreate safely this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for parts of our region, with wind gusts up to 35 mph Friday and 45 mph Saturday. Dry, windy conditions could cause fires to spread rapidly.

Help prevent a spark from becoming a wildfire:

-Secure trailer chains so they don’t drag and create sparks.

-Avoid target shooting near dry vegetation.

-Never flick lit cigarettes out of a vehicle window.

Stay informed and prepared. Sign up for emergency alerts through SMART911 at Smart911.com, and always check EmergencyWashoe.com for updates during emergencies. taken in Reno, Nevada by @renofiredept

Cats in trees get all the attention. What about skunks in storm drains? 🦨

Engine 11 helped a skunk out of a tight spot, bringing this rescue to a happy, odor-free ending!

No injuries, no smells. Just a rescue everyone could breathe easy about.

Nicely done, Engine 11! taken in Reno, Nevada by @renofiredept

The Forest closure for the Hawk Fire is still in effect, and includes the area of the Bull Fire, where firefighters are currently working. There have been multiple reports of people in the closure area over the last few days; this puts the public and firefighters at risk. Please stay out of the closure area. by @renofiredept

Today’s Council meeting started with two proclamations and a special presentation!

Council recognized the @sncommunityofnn (SNCNN) for supporting individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges and their families through accessible events, peer support and holiday assistance. During the Hawk Fire, SNCNN also partnered with Bridge Church Reno and other community members to provide accessible shelter and direct disaster relief to all-abilities residents.

Council also proclaimed September 23, 2026, as Living Responsibly with Wildlife Day with @nevadawildlife, encouraging residents to secure trash and remove food sources that attract bears and other wildlife. These simple steps help protect neighborhoods while allowing wildlife to remain wild.

Members of the Reno Fire Department also presented special shirts benefiting the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation and its work supporting local children and families affected by childhood cancer. taken in Reno, Nevada by @renofiredept

We have a few updates regarding the #FloristonFire and websites to bookmark!

As of this morning, the fire is at 640 acres and is 5% contained.

Westbound Interstate 80 remains closed from approximately the state line through the fire area due to safety concerns, including the potential for material to roll onto the highway.

Caltrans will assess roadway conditions with fire personnel to evaluate when it can safely reopen.

Evacuation warnings and orders remain in place.

Verdi & North Valleys: AQI is expected to reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups to Unhealthy.

Eastern Sparks & Spanish Springs: AQI may reach Moderate to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

The Sacramento Regional Incident Management Team assumed command of the incident at 7 a.m. this morning.

The fire remained within last night’s perimeter, with dozer line along portions of the south side and hand line around portions of the fire. Two spot fires were identified to the north.

Follow CAL FIRE NEU for official fire updates, visit NVRoads.Com for road closures, and @nnph_org for updates on AQI.

🎂 TWO YEARS OF LAMBEAU! 🎂

Apparently today is a pretty big deal… because I’m officially TWO! 🥳🐾

In two years, I’ve traveled from New York to Santa Fe, trained with some pretty incredible humans at Assistance Dogs of the West, found my person, moved to Reno, became a facility dog, joined the fire department family, attended my first fire camp, made approximately one million new friends, and discovered that belly rubs should really be considered a form of payment.

Not bad for two. 😎

My birthday wishes this year:
🎾 Unlimited fetch
🦴 Extra treats
💚 A Packers win

Thanks for following along on my adventures. I have a feeling this year is going to be a good one. by @renofiredept

This morning, the cities of Reno and Sparks came together to mark 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Members of @renofiredept, @reno_police, Sparks Fire Department, and @sparkspolicedepartment participated in Honor Guard presentations and bell-ringing tributes. Community members also joined the flower-laying ceremony as we honored the lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger and all those forever impacted by that day.

It was a beautiful and deeply somber tribute, filled with sadness for all that was lost and gratitude for the courage, sacrifice and unity that followed.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Reno City Plaza to pause, reflect and remember. taken in Reno, Nevada by @renofiredept
