Time for something a little lighter, a little stranger, and a lot more chaotic.

We’re screening Pushpaka Vimana (1987), Singeetam Srinivasa Rao’s delightfully inventive black comedy. An unemployed man discovers an unconscious millionaire and decides to steal his identity. But when a hitman comes looking for his target, a chain of mistaken identities, near-misses and perfectly timed disasters begins.

And here’s the kicker: not a single word is spoken.

Oh, heard Anthony Wong is coming to town. Found a copy of Herman Yau’s 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 (1993) lying around.

Loosely based on the infamous “Eight Immortals Restaurant murders” in Macau, this Category III cult classic stars Wong as a restaurant owner with a particularly “hands-on” approach to running his business.🍴😋

Come watch this stomach-churning mix of true crime and exploitation horror that definitely wouldn’t pass a food hygiene inspection. 🥸🕵️‍♀️

TROYESIVAN18 STANS RISE.

This October, we explore the range of queer narratives through the lens of singer-songwriter Troye Sivan’s Music Videos as well as gay horror film Leviticus (2026) directed by Adrian Chiarella (Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi !)

About Troye Sivan Retrospective:
In celebration of his album She’s The Best, this retrospective looks at the cinematic worlds created through his Music Videos - specifically
residential environments and how queer communities can exist and thrive there.

This ranges from his poignant Blue Neighbourhood Trilogy (2015) to the sweat filled parties of Rush (2023). These music videos reinterprated as short films remind us of the ability to create a home wherver we are planted but also the sobering realities and hardships that stand in the way.

OTHER MVS include: She’s The Best (2026), STUD (2021), Lucky Strike (2019), Happy Little Pill (2014) AND MORE!

About Leviticus (2026):
Two teenage boys must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most — each other.

增村保造曾在访谈中提到：“男人是被完全剥夺了自由的存在，或许是因为他们无法生育。男人必须顾及荣耀与真理。但追根究底，男人只是为了女人而活的动物。”当男性被社会规范与期待所束缚，女性在增村保造的电影中，似乎提供了另一条路径，让我们重新理解男女之间的权力关系与张力，以及控制与被控制、支配与顺从之间不断流动的关系。

由此，谷崎润一郎的作品成为了理解增村保造电影的绝佳参照。增村曾说：“你只需要读谷崎润一郎的书：他笔下的主人公都是软弱、怯懦、丑陋的……一个真正阳刚的男人并不是人，因为他活着是为了别人，为了社会。”谷崎的文学作品则经常围绕女性展开，将她们塑造成强势、善于操纵而又令人着迷的蛇蝎美人。

增村的电影着迷于那些拒绝成为男性欲望之下被动客体的女性；而谷崎则反复刻画那些臣服于欲望的男性。在《刺青》中，情欲从来不只是装饰性的元素，它本身就是权力、自由与占有等问题展开角力的场域。

这次读书会不止于阅读，我们也将视角延伸至电影。从谷崎润一郎的小说到增村保造的电影，我们不仅将讨论文学改编电影，也将进一步探讨：在这些改编与重构之下，两位创作者如何共同探索欲望、权力，以及客体与主体之间那条始终不稳定的界线。 by @repeatoffence

SECRET ANIMATION CLUB IS BACK! Next thursday we will screen the first and last films of three different directors. Which ones? Find out at repeat offence!! 1 Oct 8PM sharp.

If people are interested in it we could also do a discussion after about how a filmmaker expands and refines their vocabulary over their entire career. This program was born out of me and a friend agreeing that we hate seeing filmmaker retrospectives. But then I thought: hm. but what if we just took the front and end? I think it will be a really educational experience. But let’s see if my hypothesis is right. Ok see you there! by @repeatoffence

Ritwik Ghatak’s The Runaway (Bari Theke Paliye, 1958) follows a young boy who runs away from his rural home and arrives in Kolkata, encountering a city that is exciting, overwhelming and unforgiving.

Rather than looking at Partition through borders and politics, Ghatak brings us down to the level of everyday life: a child trying to find his way through an unfamiliar city.

If you need somewhere to run away to, you know where to find us this Wednesday.

After Nolan’s The Odyssey dropped, debate around the creative licence Nolan took with the Greek myth were quite prominent online. Among the discussion was the very first Spongebob movie, which people pointed out was a loose interpretation of The Odyssey itself. I would like to invite folks to watch this blast from the past to see how it might have surprising similarities with Nolan’s work.

How do we dream and desire in a landscape fast-forwarding with no alternatives?

For our first screening, after-the-beep opens with Unknown Pleasures (任逍遥,2002), directed by Jia Zhangke. Set in Datong, the film follows two unemployed youths drifting between motorcycles, television screens, pop songs, and mobile phones amidst bombed-out landscapes.

Reminiscent of cinéma vérité, its fictional documentary realism captures Chinese youths caught between a radical turn towards state capitalism and their own marginality. Can we interpret post-socialism as structures of feelings, voiced through alienation and disillusionment?

after-the-beep is an answering machine that looks for the message before it is reduced to noise. Showing moving images of cities and networked cultures, the programme is interested in the infrastructure of everyday life, and what’s circulating underneath—desires, memories, or strange little things of all kinds.
