Breaking Update in the Nolan Wells case

A Jackson County, Mississippi grand jury has unanimously returned a “no true bill,” meaning no criminal indictment, after reviewing the investigation into 18-year-old Nolan Wells’ death.

The grand jury reviewed testimony from 43 witnesses, 132 subpoenas, cellphone and GPS data, videos, photographs and forensic evidence.

The panel said the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Wells’ body were consistent with drowning.
However, the state medical examiner and an independent forensic pathologist previously listed the cause and manner of death as undetermined.

Wells’ family continues to seek answers and disputes that the grand-jury findings resolve the circumstances of his death.

This is the status of the case as of September 22, 2026. New credible evidence could potentially lead to further consideration.

Houston’s 419 Emancipation Center has helped 124 people move into permanent housing in its first few months — but 147 others exited without a documented permanent housing placement.

The City of Houston says that doesn’t necessarily mean those people returned to homelessness, because complete post-exit information wasn’t available in every case.

Meanwhile, nearby residents say they’re concerned about safety, police presence and the impact on their neighborhood.
