💧 Could our reporting help change how Texas water utilities charge customers?

After KPRC 2 began investigating Aqua Texas, customers across the Houston area reached out with stories of water bills that doubled or tripled — with some bills reaching hundreds or even more than $1,000.

Now, Texas lawmakers are demanding answers. State Reps. Gary Gates and Cody Harris are examining the issue, while Rep. Tom Oliverson is calling on state regulators to reject Aqua Texas’s rate filing and require refunds for customers.

Our continued reporting is helping bring these concerns to the forefront as lawmakers consider potential changes to utility regulations, including stronger oversight of rate increases, infrastructure spending and wastewater charges.

Will customers get relief? Could new laws prevent this from happening again? We’re pressing for answers and giving Aqua Texas and state regulators the opportunity to respond.

Stay with KPRC 2 as we continue investigating and following the push for accountability.

Houston voters will decide in November whether misdemeanor marijuana possession should become the Houston Police Department’s lowest enforcement priority.

Proposition A would also prohibit HPD from requesting, participating in or executing no-knock warrants. The measure would not legalize marijuana—possession would remain illegal under Texas law.

What do you think about the proposal?
