Confused about soy? You’re not alone.
From ā€œman boobsā€ to breast cancer and thyroid concerns, soy has sparked a lot of fear. But the science tells a different story.

Decades of research—and traditional dietary patterns—support that:

āœ… Soy can be safe for all ages, including kids and people with hormone-sensitive conditions
āœ… Eating 2–4 servings a day may support heart health and overall well-being
āœ… Soy protein powders and bars can be part of a healthy diet—but they’re typically lower in isoflavones than whole soy foods like tofu, tempeh, or edamame

For an excellent summary of the science, check out @simonhill podcast, The Proof Episode #258 with Dr. Mark Messina: Are Soy Foods Safe? One of the clearest, most evidence-based conversations on this topic.

I made a double batch of tempeh bacon this week using the recipe from @minimalistbaker šŸ™ŒšŸ¾

How I use it:
• Alongside leftover roasted veggies for a satisfying lunch
• A great addition to salads
• And of course, perfect in a sandwich

It’s smoky, savory, and delicious.

Tempeh is a fermented soy food that gives you protein plus fiber (which bacon doesn’t have!). Better for your health, the planet, and the animals.ā¤ļøšŸŒŽšŸ· by @reshmashah

I’ve got a bit of sweet tooth so there’s always some sort of a homemade treat in my house. While I love a decadent dessert, for everyday treats, I’m always looking to add a bit of extra nutrition. Enter this silken tofu chocolate mousse. It’s great with fruit or as a dollop next to a black bean brownie or my chocolate lentil cake inspired by @cookingforpeanuts (let me know if you want a recipe for my version!)

Silken Tofu Chocolate Mousse

11 ounce Extra Firm Silken Tofu, shelf stable (this version gives the best texture in my opinion)
1 cup dark chocolate, melted
Pinch of sea salt
Dash of vanilla

Optional (but next level!)
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1-2 tablespoons cacao nibs

Whir everything except cacao nibs in food processor or blender until smooth. Empty into a glass storage container. Stir in the optional cacao nibs. Eat immediately or for thicker texture after refrigeration for 1-2 hours. by @reshmashah

I love a good night out but you cannot beat a market inspired dinner from @calavefarmersmarket

Swipe through for details and the recipe for my Meyer Lemon and Walnut Pesto

@borbafamilyfarms
@fifthcrowfarm
@iacopifarms
@prevedellifarms
@themidwifeandthebaker

Summer tomatoes…

A little olive oil, salt and pepper, and loads of fresh parsley

A fellow shopper at the market raved about this red butter lettuce and she was right to do so! I topped it with sliced snap peas, fresh strawberries, and my favorite, easy dressing….

A little minced garlic, Dijon mustard, dried oregano, zest and juice of a Meyer lemon, a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, s&p, olive oil. I use much less olive oil than traditional vinaigrettes to make it lighter and to let the flavors shine. I pretty much never buy bottled dressing.

Simple, vegan pesto that’s great on top of bread, as a dip, or with pasta.

Meyer Lemon Walnut Pesto

Bunch of basil leaves
1-2 garlic cloves, sliced
1/2 cup toasted walnuts
Zest and juice of 1 Meyer lemon
3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1-2 tablespoons olive oil

Pulse all of the ingredients except the olive oil in a food processor. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil, and purée until desired consistency. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste. by @reshmashah

Some things connect us instantly—music, food, a shared table.

This weekend I attended a miso workshop that my friend @soulfoodsalon invited me to, hosted by @sharedcultures and @hedonistinmoderation

We made miso-infused chocolate treats, I met some really lovely people, and it’s exactly the kind of afternoon I want more of this year.

I bought an amazing jar of butter bean miso from @sharedcultures and remade my miso maple roasted walnuts, this time with fresh thyme. I used them in the most delicious Candied Thyme Walnut Cabbage Salad from @edeneats and I’m already dreaming of making it again.

Save this recipe to gift or enjoy with friends and family. Great on salads, over oatmeal or yogurt, or on a cheese plate.

Miso Thyme Maple Glazed Walnuts
1 tablespoon miso paste
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
2 cups raw walnuts
Optional: flaky sea salt
1. Preheat oven to 350°F
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the miso paste and maple syrup. Stir in the thyme, then add the walnuts. Toss to combine.
3. Spread the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
4. Bake for 10 minutes until golden.
5. Allow to cool completely (they will harden) before storing in an airtight container. by @reshmashah

Adding more plants to your diet doesn’t have to be complicated. When people ask me what’s a good place to start I often say breakfast. Once you have a few plant-based breakfast options in your regular rotation, you can move on to lunch, snacks, and dinner. Alternatively, you could start with Meatless Monday or vegan before six.

This is one of my go to breakfast these days. Overnight oats with rolled oats, plant-based Greek yogurt, fortified soy milk, a little maple syrup, nut butter, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and of course, fresh fruit.

What are your favorite go-to plant based meals? by @reshmashah

I had such a wonderful conversation on @asklisapodcast with @lisa.damour and @reenaninan about one of my favorite topics—the power of family meals! šŸ½ļø

As we discussed, the research is clear: eating together strengthens relationships, supports mental health, and helps kids develop healthier habits. And the good news for busy families? It doesn’t have to be dinner, it doesn’t have to be perfect, and it doesn’t have to include everyone every time. Any shared meal, any time of day, counts.

A few practical tips to make family meals work for YOUR family:
Start where you are. If nightly dinners feel impossible, aim to add 1-2 family meals per week. Progress over perfection.

Keep it simple. Family meals are about connection, not culinary masterpieces. Simple, nourishing foods work beautifully.

Let kids participate. Whether it’s setting the table, choosing a vegetable, or stirring something, involvement builds investment.

Focus on conversation, not correction. Avoid negotiating the number of bites, critiquing table manners, or bringing up tense topics like homework or chores.

What’s one way YOUR family connects over food? I’d love to hear! šŸ‘‡ by @reshmashah
