this was a shoot i did back in july of this year while i was in england (lets ignore that im posting this 3 months later). i was very limited in the shots i could get considering this was after graduating from fit so i didnt have access to equipment i needed, and all i had was my canon 6D, a 50 mm lens, a silver reflector, and a dream 🫩 thank you to my models and assistant for bearing with me and helping throughout this shoot ♡

on wednesday october 7th, CUNY students and activists alike gathered at city hall to mourn the 70,000+ palestinian lives lost at the hands of israel after the events of october 7th, 2023. they marched uptown to union square where a vigil, organized by israeli’s for peace new york, was set to take place. speakers such as liberal zionist brad lander, public advocate jumaane williams, and mayor zohran mamdani were scheduled to speak at this event. mamdani did not speak by the time the vigil ended, but the protesters made their demands clear to zohran:

stop the illegal sale of palestinian land in new york synagogues. fire nypd police commissioner jessica tisch. dissolve the srg. dissolve the cuny board of trustees. by @resimgraph

very late post but back in may of this year, my sister and her (now) husband got married and asked me to do a wedding shoot in central park as a way to commemorate their marriage ^^ it was insanely hot and everyone and their mothers was roaming central park also the sun was giving me agita but the experience was definitely enlightening, it’s the first time i got to do a shoot like this and i hope to do more in the future 🤍 (#hireme)

this project came about from frustration and rage for the way men seem to take up so much space. women are taught to be mindful of themselves in public spaces. and yet, men spread their legs so wide it feels like entrapment

back when i used to be a victim of dating apps, i made it clear to the people i talked to that i was raised muslim. however, ive had instances of men (the usual culprits) fetishizing me for being a muslim woman.

“my fantasy is to have sex with a woman in her hijab” is something that has been said to me way too many times by men.

muslim women are taught to be faithful to the beliefs of islam whilst having the misfortune of being viewed as a porn category by sex feens. women are just bucket lists for men to tick off once they’ve had their way.

i was inspired by an iranian film titled “the color of paradise”. released in 1999, the film follows a blind boy named mohammed who navigates the world through his other senses. in the film, he recounts a story to a blind man who becomes his mentor:

“our teacher says that God loves the blind more because they can’t see. but i told him if it was so, He would not make us blind so that we can’t see Him. he answered ‘God is not visible. He is everywhere. you can feel Him. you see Him through your fingertips’. now i reach out everywhere for God till the day my hands touch Him and tell Him everything, even all the secrets in my heart”.

i wondered from this quote how does god conceptualize in our world? how can we interpret abrahamic figures within an environment we’re familiar with? as for myself, i wondered how do i interact with god and the concept of religion outside of an islamic upbringing?

this project, titled “dysphoria”, stemmed from several conversations i had with @grayrohannn about gender expression through clothing. we discussed how at times, the clothes we wear can feel limiting in the way we actually perceive ourselves. expression comes in many forms, but the way we perceive ourselves and how we wish to perceive ourselves to other people isnt necessarily the way it’s registered to others.

“your pleasure is His pain”

for my photo 4 class, we had to make an image that represents the concept of pain and pleasure. this photoshoot comes after my professor tells me to focus my work on political concepts that are important to me. with pain and pleasure, the first thought that came to my head was the exploration of pleasure while confined by the ritualistic practices of religion (specifically abrahamic religions). pleasure and sexuality is often associated with sinful behavior, and yet people will find ways to partake in sex—it’s a human emotion that’s too strong to be restricted. how can religion be involved in human identity when sex and holiness contradict each other? is there a way to explore sexuality when God watches our every move? is there truly a God that sees every single thing we do?
