Injustice in an algorithm is still injustice.

Today the Boston City Council unanimously passed the AI Civil Rights Act measure I wrote. 🗳️ The measure calls for public notices when automated systems inform decisions affecting residents, a public inventory of the AI systems the City uses, and a hearing on how those systems are being deployed.

I think about the young people at @wearethelooplab I work with every day. AI will help decide whether they get the job, the apartment, the second chance. They deserve to know the system is fair.

Dr. King dreamed of a Beloved Community. Tonight, that dream took one more step into the future.

We’re happy to announce Rev. Chris Hope of The Hope Group as a speaker at the 2026 Mass Black Expo!

Chris’s work asks an increasingly important question as artificial intelligence reshapes businesses and institutions: who gets to shape the technology, and who gets to benefit from it?

Through The Hope Group, a Boston ethical AI lab, Chris has focused on building technology around access, dignity, and real community needs.

One of those tools is Project Lookout, the technology powering BECMA Compass. Built with Black-owned businesses in mind, the platform is designed to help entrepreneurs identify grants, contracts, and other opportunities without spending hours searching across multiple sources.

At this year’s Expo, Chris will join Stephen Walter and BECMA Program Manager Abdullateef Lawal for the BECMA Compass Unveiling.

The session will introduce attendees to the tool and show how AI can be applied to a very practical business challenge: finding the opportunities that can help a company grow.'

Just sat down with Lisa Mullins for All Things Considered on WBUR, Boston’s NPR station, and I’m still a little in disbelief writing this.

We talked about AI. Faith. And what it means to build technology that actually serves people instead of quietly leaving them behind. The kind of conversation I’ve been having in classrooms and boardrooms and church basements for years, now on a stage I never pictured for myself growing up.
