We’re happy to announce Rev. Chris Hope of The Hope Group as a speaker at the 2026 Mass Black Expo!

Chris’s work asks an increasingly important question as artificial intelligence reshapes businesses and institutions: who gets to shape the technology, and who gets to benefit from it?

Through The Hope Group, a Boston ethical AI lab, Chris has focused on building technology around access, dignity, and real community needs.

One of those tools is Project Lookout, the technology powering BECMA Compass. Built with Black-owned businesses in mind, the platform is designed to help entrepreneurs identify grants, contracts, and other opportunities without spending hours searching across multiple sources.

At this year’s Expo, Chris will join Stephen Walter and BECMA Program Manager Abdullateef Lawal for the BECMA Compass Unveiling.

The session will introduce attendees to the tool and show how AI can be applied to a very practical business challenge: finding the opportunities that can help a company grow.'

General Admission is sold out, but the John Hope Bryant VIP Experience is still available and includes Expo admission, a meet-and-greet, refreshments, and a pre-signed copy of Capitalism for All. Reserve your spot: https://bit.ly/mbe2026tickets

Still riding the high from graduation. 🎓✨

We’re celebrating Cohorts 8, 9 & 10 and the growth, creativity, hard work, and everything they brought to The Loop Lab along the way.

A huge thank you to @bonjourparis_ of GBH News’ @rootedgbh for hosting such a special evening and helping us celebrate this incredible milestone with our apprentices, families, partners, and community.

We also shared some exciting news at graduation: The Loop Lab is partnering with Roxbury Community College @seeroxburycc to launch new pathways through FORGE, creating even more opportunities for young people to build skills and careers in the creative workforce.

And we’re not slowing down. New cohorts kick off next week, bringing a new group of apprentices, new ideas, and a whole new chapter to look forward to.

Celebrating how far we’ve come and getting excited for what’s next. 🚀

The Loop Lab alumni community came together last week for an evening of connection, conversation, and inspiration.

It was great to see alumni from multiple cohorts reconnect, share experiences, and continue building the creative community that makes The Loop Lab so special. We also had the opportunity to hear from CEO Chris Hope, Donald Wright, M.B.A., Interim Chief of the City of Boston’s Economic Opportunity & Inclusion Cabinet, and Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui, whose insights on leadership, opportunity, and investing in Boston’s creative talent made for an impactful discussion.

Always grateful to be part of a community that’s committed to opening doors, creating opportunities, and uplifting the next generation of storytellers and creatives.

I believe showing up for people is what public service is all about. That means knowing your neighbors, being there when they need help, following through, and being part of the community you serve.

Thank you to @revchrishope for your support and for sharing this story!

The Loop Lab to connected with industry leaders at @infocommshow and got to experience the impact of community-based workforce development in the AV industry.

A highlight of the week was seeing our Founder, @revchrishope, present Community-Based Models That Work in Pro AV and participate in a panel discussion on the Vision Stage, sharing how partnerships, training, and apprenticeship pathways can help expand access to careers in creative technology.

Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation and connected with our team throughout the week.

It has been 30 years since Senator Ed Markey passed the Telecommunications Act into law and I am so glad my team could attend this Massachusetts Broadband Institute at MassTech event highlighting Markey's accomplishment. This conversation highlighted the progress in closing the digital divide and the work ahead we must focus on to ensure everyone has access to the digital tools we all need.

Most AI conversations ask: How do we prevent harm?

This one asks: What do we do when the harm is already happening?

As AI becomes more expensive and more embedded in our daily lives, questions of access, equity, and accountability can't wait for the future.

Join Chris Hope, Danielle Toussaint, Dr. Callie Edwards, Dr. Shauna Knox, Chris Gray, and Kwamane Liddell for two conversations about building AI that serves communities—not just markets.

From ethical AI practices to equitable product design, this session explores what it looks like to make inclusive AI a present-day reality.

Director Maria McCauley had the honor of speaking at the MIT Media Lab about the profound impact of E-rate and 30 years of the Telecommunications Act to bring universal broadband across the United States through our libraries and schools. Libraries are essential digital access points and vibrant places of life long learning. As technology evolves, libraries will continue to ensure that every community—urban, rural, and tribal—can fully participate in the digital society.
